tattoo's on brides?

hummingbird, 24 November, 2011 at 23:37 Posted on Planning 0 37

I have a headache just now, i would really appreciate honest opinions, OH has given his but i still need womens opinions!

I have a chest piece tattoo and i have been looking for highneck dresses to cover it, but 1) i feel very limited in dresses 2) i think why cover it it's part of me and then 3)I think will i regret having it on show, will it detract from the dress and look horrendous in photo's?

If you have tattoos what did you do? even if you don't all honest opinions will be appreciated. i have added a pic where you can see the majority of it, there is also writing underneath it. And the hair is a nice"socially acceptable shade of blonde and brown hi- lights and lo lights now ?

Hi i have a tattoo and i am going to look for some make up thats specially for covering tattoos up so if you decide not to have it on show then this a good and safe option ?

I have tattoo's, They are in places that are easily covered although I never purposely buy clothes to cover them up.

If you and your OH are not concerned about covering them on your big day, then don't worry about what other people may think.

I will have mine on show and my hair will be postbox red, I am not hiding who I am just so others see a socially acceptable bride.?

Its your wedding day, you need to be happy and feel comfortable in your outfit. If you dont like your tattoo any more then cover it with makeup but if you still love it have it on show!

Why dont you go try on a few wedding dresses that you like (not just high neck ones) and see how you feel in the dress. take a piccie of you in the dress ,have one piccie left with you and tat and then uses paint or photoshop to get rid of the tat in the other pictue and see what you prefer.

Only you can (and should) decide if you want to hide your tattoo. I have 3 on my upper body and am having them covered by a specialist. I also have one on my wrist but will be leaving this on show

I don't like tattoos at all so I'm never going to like them on a bride. I think it's something to do with my OCD issues. I see a tattoo on someone and I kind of want to wash it off just like if I see a one shouldered dress I want to cut the one strap off to even it up. I know - I'm weird!

If you've got tattoos that are on display normally I wouldn't see any reason at all why you should be made to feel like you've got to cover it up. It's part of you, and the people that are coming to your wedding love you because you're you, so try not to worry x

I have a tattoo on my shoulderblade, I didn't cover it last time and won't this time. However, it's small-ish (about 4 inches high and across) and feminine and if i had one, I also wouldn't cover up something like a small celtic band on my arm or ankle (note - SMALL)

Having said that, I would cover something so prominent as to be right across my chest, round my neck, on my face, or all over my arms. No disrespect to those who wouldn't, just a personal thing. It will be in ALL wedding photos, so if one day in the distant future you regret having it, you won't be able to display a photo without it. You seem to want to appear "socialy acceptable", whatever that means, by dyeing your hair, so is there a small part of you that wants to be a relatively conventional bride?

I have 5 tattoos and I wouldn't cover them up on my wedding day. I have not decided on hair styles or dress yet but I know that one of them and maybe two will be covered but not by choice. I have butterflys on my inside index finger on my left hand so that will be on show in ALL of the wedding ring pictures as will the one on my wrist.

I don't care what people think and I'm sure you don't too Smiley smile you tattoo looks great and if it is you and you are proud of it flash it Smiley laugh

However like some of the others say try on a few dresses and see how you feel.

Be yourself not what others expect you to be!

    xx

A tattoo on ME on my wedding day would not look good - I don't have any tattoos, it is just not my style at all, and hence my 'wedding day style' (oh GOD did I just say that??) would jar with tattoos, naturally!

However, on you it will look perfect! It suits you (I like the pink hair!) - as Happy Tog said, balance it out, add some dark nail varnish and some statement jewellery.

CHeck out the 'Rock My Wedding' blog - lots of brides with tattoos on there, and also lots of brides who are loyal to their own personal style, likes and dislikes on their wedding day.

Why change the colour of your hair and hide your tattoo's on YOUR wedding day? Surely you still want to look like 'you'?

If your unsure can you try maybe a bolero/jacket/shrug which will allow you to cover it if you want and then show it off if you want?? The best thing to do is try a few dresses and see which styles you like and go from there

I didn't hide my tattoos. They actually determined the theme of our wedding. My H had a lot of his on show too. There was no way I was hiding them, they're part of me. I got them for a reason, and I wasn't going to be "shamed" into hiding them to please other people.

Ive got tattoo's on my upper arms and full back and I will be wearing a wrap for some of the day but that's not to cover my tattoo's but to keep me warm as getting married a week before Christmas means it's likely to be blooming freezing! Its an organza scarf though so my tats can still be seen through it. You have to do what you feel is best for you and how you would feel happiest on your big day.

I would never cover up my tats - I had them on display on my wedding day.

It depends on how you want to look - if you're going for the big white dress and you think it might look odd with tats on show try to photoshop option before you commit to anything (I photoshopped my tats out of a photo once and changed my hair colour and my own son didn't recognise me) but there are some great cover-up make-up solutions out there.

I have a tattoo but it is on my back so wouldn't show unless I have a backless dress. But I do think it's up to you. I would be happy to search for a backless dress to show off, but then I am currently happy with mine. One of my brides had her tattoo on show as she loves it & has a personal message. So I'd say it's your choice.

Just be yourself, that's all. Do you like your tattoos? If yes, don't cover them. You might choose a style that is somewhat less traditional and will better go with your tattoos (and your personality!). I photographed a bride with tattoos a while ago (http://www.aniaroth.com/2011/05/joian/), nobody made a big deal our of them - people at the wedding are just family and friends, they know you have your tattoos anyway Smiley winking

I have one smallish tattoo on my wrist that will be on show on my wedding day, it's no big deal. If YOU like your tattoo, then why feel pressured into covering it up because "society" says you should? You got it for a reason, people should just appreciate that it's a part of you.

Having said that, if you do decide you want to cover it up with make-up (for you, not for anybody else!!) then definitely get it professionally done. My aunt bought tattoo make up to cover her upper arm tattoo for her wedding and in all the photos it looks like she has a massive bruise. The tattoo would have looked better!

    Hi guys,

Firstly id like to thank you all, you have all made valid points. After much deliberation, i have actually decided to have that particular tattoo removed!

I have loads and i love them all, i have a full back piece and i wouldn't even mind having that on show , i think after all my thoughts i just really dislike this tattoo now.

As for my "socially acceptable" statement i think i painted myself in the wrong light.. i was just joking, i believe everyone should be true to themselves, I don't really have a "style" i just try out lots of things, and blonde is the thing for mt hair just now!!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to help me xxxx

Just had a thought! rather than have it painfully removed before your big day why dont you get some of that Kat Von D cover up? my cousin has a sleeve and she used it when she was bridesmaid as the bride refused to let her show them! it is supposed to be really good!! xx

I think the fact that you've even questioned it says your not sure about showing it because if u wasnt bothered by it being seen then you wouldnt of even thought of considering covering it up. but it obviously means alot to u so would u b bothered if it was hidden or do u not mind? other wise show it off lol x

As i said, after much thought i know it's not the idea of having tattoos on display, it's the fact that i really dislike my chest piece now.

The main thing is dont do what others want....only do what you want....i have tattoos and although they most are easily hidden with the dress i have one going down my spine from the neck, and im getting make up to cover it up. not because im ashamed i just persoannly think i would like it not be all over the photos.

but thats what i want to do not anyone else. do what you think is best for your tattoos are a very personal choice.

Thanks. I'm going to go try on some dresses, but i also have an appointment to see about getting it lasered off, after about 10 tattoos the thought of getting one lasered off is actually more scary than the concept of getting one haha

Personally i don't see why would would want to cover up a part of you. I have 6 and everyone at my wedding that counts knows i have tattoos so why go out of my way to cover them lol the only one that will really be seen is on my arm and it was one i got when i was 16 so instead of being embarassed by it i am getting it covered up with a brand new tattoo- wedding present to myself lol Smiley smile x
