Tax Tip - do you / your OH wear a uniform for work

Ice Queen, 29 March, 2008 at 18:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

If it is logo's and there are no laundry facilities at work to wash it then you may be able to claim about £13 a year for laundry expenses ! It can be backdated 6 years, so might be worth a shot

If you want more details have a look on this thread, there is an example letter to the tax office

    Thanks..

H is SE and works from home, I am his laundry facility?

Would that already be in his expenses (use of home as office)? He does have logos on T-shirts and Jackets..

    Excellent tip though?

Doesn't work for Self employed people as they already claim everything through their business

? for that my H will be able to claim this- do you have to prove that there are no washing facilities on site or do they just go by what you say - ie does your boss have to confirm it in a letter to them ??

Just write the letter to the tax office as per the template on the site and the IR will do the rest - will probably take a few months to get a reply, but they'll get there eventually
