Tea length dress

LilMissBusyBride, 17 May, 2012 at 16:46 Posted on Planning 0 45

Ok. So I recently wrote a post about needing to plan a wedding in a week and realised that before that week I need my dress sorted so I know the feel of the day I am going for. I am currently in love with tea length dresses. It means if I dont lose weight on my tummy where all my weight sits I wont be so self-conscious, plus I love dancing and think it will be easier and fun in this dress, finally it is August and in a place with a lot of windows and no aircon. This is so more of a 'me' dress but it feels a little scary to not go with the norm (I know it's not that daring but you know what I mean). Anyone got one and fancy a cheeky flash? For those who have 1 what were your reasons and for those that had 1 are you pleased you did? Thanks xxx

    Any excuse!

I chose mine because it's bloody gorgeous. All of my weight sits on my tummy and I love that this dress gave me a proper waist.

I felt completely free for the whole day and was able to dance without once worrying about my dress.

P.S. all my guests adored it and loved that it was something different.

Kharv that is a gorgeous pic, I love how the background light is sort of projecting you forward iykwim

OP if you love them then go for it! Try a range on and see what suits you. I would have loved to go for a tea length dress, but hate my big feet so knew I wanted floor length to hide them. But if you think it fits in with what you want then why not?

    Hi LilMissBusyBride

I've gone for a LouLou Dress LB36 , can't flash at min. When i was looking at all the different dresses the Tea length stood out for me.My friend had said to me that she thought this style of dress would suite me as i'm only 5 foot.Like other ladies on here i have my weight around the middle and the dress i have chosen gives my a lovely waist (which i didn't know i had) and also hides that tummy of mine.

I'm really getting into the 1950's look and will see if i can have extra petticoats (colour co-ordinated with the Bridesmaids) underneath. So looking forward to getting my dress, i think it will be in October the bridal shop has said. I'm getting married on 30th December 12 (only 7 months away, yippee) ?

    Hi LilMissBB,

I've not chosen my dress yet but I do have one on my short list you might like, when I tried it on it did come to my ankle ( which caused a laugh ) but woman said it can be ordered in a shorter length.

    Hi

These are lovely dresses and look great. I went to a wedding where the bride looked stunning in a tea length dress and bridesmaids wore long dresses. You need to wear the dresss you really want. It is your special day and you need to feel comfortable and in what your ideal dress is.

    These look gorgeous. Good choices.

I had nothing but positive comments all day so I wouldnt worry about that.

IMO, I find it hard to distinguish between long, strapless wedding dresses - not saying there are not some beautiful ones out there but they can all be a bit samey?

Eek! Ok, youi lot have given me the confidence to go for it. When I get a day of not working at some point I am going to try on the one below. The dresses flashed are all stunning...and if the 1 I try on twirls as much when I dance as the 1 in the pic, it is definitly sold! Thanks!

Being quite short I was going to try one on but the dress shop discouraged me saying they can drown petite frames and it's often a myth that they suit small girls - and I can see where she's coming from. Plus they are becoming very popular - everyone I've spoken to has said "I reckon one of those tea length dresses would loom fab on you!" so I thought it may be a bit predictable..

Thanks Cakeycase...I was a bit worried last night when the thread went all quiet as soon as I posted it. Hoping that's just because it was near bed time!! x

    You're welcome ?

I never tried on any of the tea length dresses as i'm a bit of a shortie, and I tend to avoid anything that length in day-to-day clothes as it only makes me look shorter ☹️

There are some gorgeous dresses here - mine is a little shorter than tea length and the photos are terrible, had to take them on my phone in my bedroom before it was decorated so no one could see! This is my £40 eBay spectacular - it's meant to be a bridesmaid dress so hopefully i'll look like a bride in it. This is my first flash too ?

These dresses are lovely! I didnt go for a tea length dress as I wanted the princess feel and a train lol. Also needing some height as my OH is a "bit" taller than me, so I didn't think these would suit, plus I hate my legs and really didn't want to have to show them all day.

    Hi there,

Have you tried this lovely Charlotte Balbier number yet?

I have a short dress for the same reason, plus my h2b has size 13 feet and stands on bride's trains just standing still :-)

Check out the range from Kitty and Dulcie, they're beautiful and very affordable.

I'm joining the tea-length party! ? I was originally going for an elegant, lacy number, or a chiffon floaty thing, but I tried on several of each and none suited me at all. I was totally against princess gowns, although I did try on a couple, which just reaffirmed why I didn't want them - too much foof! I tripped over at least twice O_o haha. And the lacy ones, well, my Mom said I looked lovely, and the dresses were gorgeous, but I didn't feel like me, I was totally underwhelmed by them.

Then I tried one on that my Mom had picked out. She hadn't realised it was tea-length, but I loved that there was absolutely no way I could trip over the skirt ? so the lovely assistant went and got me a load more and when I tried on Lou Lou LB33... it was amazing. I only had one concern, which was the underskirt kind of annoyed me, but the assistant said it could be taken out no problem and replaced with a softer tulle underskirt. I then gathered up my hair to see what the back looked like, and I saw myself walking down the aisle! I got tears in my eyes and everything, and I knew.

Here's me pulling a silly face in my dress ?

Canterbury Bride - can I ask where you got your BM dresses from? I am thinking of tea length dresses for mine but I've had trouble finding any in that sort of style?

I went for a tea length dress as I'm only 5ft 3 and I thought it would look better on me than a really long one. I found a lady who makes beautiful tea length dresses and she is making me one.

This is the same design as mine but will have purple sash and petticoat.

I'm only 5'3" and I'm going for a tea length dress! I found it definitely suited me better, very flattering too and I get to wear some lovely high heels that everyone will see on the day!

I couldnt find a tea length dress that I really liked though so have gone for a full length one that a dressmaker is going to chop the bottom off for me ? I had to choose carefully though, they can't all be shortened but I'm really pleased and know that it's unlikely anyone else is going to have the same dress as me.

    I say go for it!!
