Tea Length dress ladies....

Icklefee, 27 April, 2013 at 22:04 Posted on Planning 0 31

Are you wearing a veil or not? If yes, are you going with a birdcage or something longer?

I originally wanted a birdcage veil but my dress is strapless and there just seems to be too much of a gap between a birdcage and the top of the dress. I don't know whether to go with a slightly longer bouffant style veil or not bother at all.

Suggestions please!

hahahaha!! this is something I have to be very careful of! I'm very tiny so anything longer than shoulder length I'm going to look like the bride of chuckie! I've tried on birdcages and even small ones look huge because I have a head the size of a pea. The bouffants will probably make me look even tinier so I'm thinking maybe just go as wide as possible and just totally over- exaggerate my petite-ness. I don't want to hide the back of my dress as the bow and buttons are the only detail on it.

I'm having an elbow length drop veil. My dress isn't strictly tea length though, it reaches down to just under the knees. I tried a bouffant shoulder length one and it made me look like a mushroom...!

I've got a gorgeous tea-length 1950s dress, and I'm actually thinking of getting a ridiculously fantastic hat instead of a veil. My dress is a pinkish, goldish ivory (they call it "Lily"), and a white veil would look terribly peculiar with it.

The historical use of veils bothers me, and so I'm not interested there. But mostly, I want an excuse to wear a hat like this: https://www.louisegreen.com/collections/shop-by-color/white-ivory-neutral/spring-summer/5235tpsi-top-hat-ivory.html

I've bought an elbow length veil, but am considering not wearing it. I'm another shorty, and as it's already been said - I don't think it's the best look for me!

I've got a side tiara hairband thing, so think I might just go with that instead.

I didn't, I wore a side tiara. Kharv wore one and it looked great though.

I didn't wear any type of veil with mine. If I had, I would have gone for a birdcage veil. I think they just "go" better.

I'm not wearing a veil with mine, just a little headband with fabric flowers on which matches the flowers on the belt of my dress.

No veil for me, just a side tiara. I will have very long hair with the help if extensions so my shoulder will be covered with tumbling curls

I'm going for an elbow length veil- mainly because I am going to drape it over my shoulders when in the church as it is strapless and I don't want to flash too much flesh! I'm getting a very simple almost clear fabric though so it doesn't take anything away from the dress design!

If this ultra bouffant one goes, then I think anything does? Smiley laugh

edit: I guess it just depends on what fits *you*. Like I said, I'm a petite 5' size 6/8 and this look just didn't suit! But, it may look fab on you!

This is my dress except mine is ivory instead of black. I'm only 4ft 10 and not really very big, especially across the shoulders and back. I'm wondering if, with such a huge bow on the back of the dress, a big veil might end up making me look even tinier!

Ooooh, I don't know if I'd go for a big veil, Icklefee. You are teeny weeny, and it could make you wind up looking like a doll.

    Have you tried any on?

I tried a birdcage but really wasn't comfortable with it, although it may have been the style. It came over one side of my face and seemed to accentuate my pointy nose! I think maybe I just need to go and try some different styles. I was hoping to do this one over the internet, I HATE bridal shops. God was I glad that I found what I wanted in the very first shop with minimal effort!

If it's a possibility, you could order a few different styles online and try on at home? Then return the ones you don't like? If they're not custom made it should be possible. How about birdcage/blusher veil that covers your whole face?

ahh thank you. I adore my little dress. It gets a bit lost amongst all the big frilly, sparkly numbers but it's totally me. Wedding shows may be the way forward. Or, since I'm just about the last person I know to get married I might have a girls night in with a "bring a bottle and your veil" theme!

Mine was elbow length. I wanted a birdcage as I thought it would look better but actually it looked pants on. The veil made me feel like a 'real' bride too :/

Here are some birdcage veils that I've done for some of my happy clients. Everything I do is hand made to order, so I can design something to suit you.

Carolyn wanted a larger holed veil that was close to her head and then had a satin fascinator too. She had the veil cover a lot of her face.

Felicity had a large pouffy veil, on an alice band, which had roses to match her dress on it. It was very full and covered most of her face.

Maria (not a bride, but still a birdcage veil), just wanted a fascinator with a suggestion of a veil. This didn't cover her face at all.

And these are 2 designs from my website....which are a little more unusual but might suit :-)

    Hope this helps.
