Tearoom/Bar/Shop etc reccommendations please!

BumbleBrat, 19 November, 2011 at 17:32 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

(I did one of these a while back for a bit of inspiration, need more help.. Dont stone me)

Going on a little four day road trip next week in a beautiiiiiiful splittie VW camper - I'm useless and have only actually planned the end destination (Anglesey).

I need stuff to do along the way, reccommendations from you lovely lot would be good - If there's anyone up here? Everyone seems to be darn sarffff.

Here's the route we'll be taking in map form:

Would like some tea (Well, coffee!) & cake stop offs, cute little shops, good country pub grub, amazing sights.. And somewhere that sells v expensive champagne ?

TIA!

    Whaaaaaat?!

I now live 2 miles from the English/Wales border but I've never been as far as Anglesey before. Have been to Llandudno but only ever for the beach (Tis my nearest one, 1.5 hours away, you're v lucky!) and a few crappy shops.

The beach is not all it has cracked up to be- its bloomin windy on the seafront.

There is a fabulous tea shop in Llanwrst, just by the bridge, it's a national trust property, they do the most amazing warm scones.

BB it is that one, it floods most winters and they have to move everything upstairs. There are even plaques on the walls inside to say how high the flood waters have been.

There is also a great tea/coffee place in Llangollen, it's a book shop, the hot chocolate is gorgeous.

Are you staying in the camper or looking for accomodation too?

Blimey, disaster re: floods!! It looks very 'me'. Will def be going there!

Ooh I have worked on and off for a couple of years in Llangollen but never ventured much further than the river for an icecream on my breaks - The taxidermy place up the road over the bridge freaks me out though!

We're staying in the Camper, but it only occured to me yesterday that there is clearly not a bath or toilet in there so now I'm stumped as to what we do for both! Eakk!

    Tis a pretty little lady:

They close after Christmas and don't reopen until easter I think, and before that they have to go in and get rid of all the flood debris from inside. It's beautiful and traditional welsh cottage inside, and always pristine, it's known in our family as 'The Scone House'

I know what you mean about the taxidermy place it's really freaky.

She looks fab, Have you hired her? If you have, do you mind asking where from? My girls would just love a weekend away in something as pretty as that.

Gosh, that must be so annoying every year! She is from a lovely little company in Mold, called Split The Difference. They have two buses, but Jessie is my favourite out of the two. Very excited!

Were you looking for things to do in Anglesea BB - H's sisters have a house there - so I can ask them, however there seems to be very little about. There is a lovely pub (or two) on the seafront though.

There will be loads in Colywn bay - and there is some fab places in oswestry is meant to be lovely too if you wanted to pop into there!

We've stayed in Benlec (?) before in Anglessey and it's a beautiful bay (always quiet).

There's a pub in Red dwarf Bay called the Ship which used to do amazing food.

As for your splittie - you could always take a solar shower - can get them for about a tenner. And i'd check who you're hiring from - do they supply a port-a-loo in it (I thought most did).

Enjoy your trip, we have a vw camper (but 80's one) and love it, your shoulders just drop the minute you get in it as you can't go anywhere fast. And remember to wave at all the passing VW's!

Thanks Gabs, have just looked at The Ship Inn's website, I was ready to go when I read the first thing on the menu - Charred bundle of asparagus, yuuuuuum!!

I googled a ton of campsite's last night and found quite a few that were open all year round so going to book a couple, need to decide where abouts we'll be on those nights though first.

I'm so excited about driving the camper, I'm the only one insured on it as my passenger hasn't been driving long enough to be allowed.

Thanks for all your help thus far!

If you're on a campsite with electric hookup, take an electric fan heater. There is nothing better than sitting in a warm camper van (They heat up with a leccy heater in no time) with a drink in hand and either a board game or book to read. (might sound sad, but seeing as it gets dark early, it's lovely to sit and chill and be cosy.

Hopeyou report back after your trip, can't wait to hear all about it

Last March we went to Pwellhi(sp) and on the way went t llandudno, we paid about a 3 quid toll and drove the great orme coast road - its spectacular (and so much better than the £20 tram up the 'mountain') Totally recommend it
