Tears on my wedding day

vpmf, 24 August, 2009 at 21:35 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi all,

I had my hair trial on Saturday and my final dress fitting and at both times I burst into tears. I'm now really worried I'm going to go to pieces on the big day!!

Has anyone got any hints or tips how to keep it together !

Vicki

Nope, sorry. I walked down the aisle in tears so can't help at all. Nothing to be ashamed of if you do shed a tear.

The bride at the wedding I went to on Saturday burst into tears at the beginning of saying her vows. She took some deep breaths, composed herself and started again. I don't think it ruined the moment at all - if anything it added to the emotion of the ceremony IYSWIM?

I wouldn't worry about it - if it happens it happens. Make sure you have waterproof mascara and someone with tissues on standby!

I'm a crier - sometimes just repeating 'I will not cry' (like in work situations!) helps me.

You're going to cry - just make sure you're prepared for it.

I alternated between blubbing and near-hysterical fits of giggles. I practically whispered my vows to try to stop my voice breaking.

I've got no hope in hell of not crying - I find myself filling up every time I even read something about a wedding at the moment!

I will cry and have resigned myself to that fact!

A little tip I read somewhere is to ensure the groom has plenty of tissues in his pocket ready for you!

I have definitely become a crier in recent years, not really sure why! It's weird with me, I don't just cry if I'm stressed, or if I've had an argument or am faced with confrontation or anything like that - I seem to keep quite strong in those situations, but put on anything remotely emotional on TV, say something sentimental around me, or get me thinking about the wedding in any shape or form and I just collapse and sob my heart out!

I tried putting together some ideas for my wedding speech the other day and kept welling up terribly! My mum doesn't think it's a good idea for me to do a speech because she's convinced no one will be able to understand me through the blubbing ?

As others have said though, I think crying is all part of the day - it's emotional and to be expected. My main gripe is looking all puffed up and red in the photos! I'm hoping that to some extent the adrenaline and nerves of it all will help stave off the tears for a bit, but that might be a pointless hope!

I'm definitely going to cry, I listened to my entrance song this morning and that set me off!

Like Stazzle I'm hoping the adrenaline will see me through on the day but if not I figure there's only a short period of time where I'll be that emotional, after the ceremony is over I'll be fine. And possibly bouncing around like an idiot ?

I think a small amount of voice wobble, tears etc adds to the emotion of the day.

My sister (a teacher) got married recently and said her vows like she was teaching a lesson! Loud and dominant! I found it a bit wierd tbh...!

If you cry, he will cry, if you both cry everyone will cry so brightside atleast you wont be the only one....i know i will only hold it together if OH does, and i have had no tears yet when seeing my stuff.....mind you he read me the speech last night (weird but he wanted too) and there is one part where he talks about my dad and how he never met him where he just broke down, so that started me off.....i have said he doesnt have to say it but he wants too and we have both resigned ourselves that its going to be emotional! and i dont have any issue with that apart from the fear of my make up running Smiley smile
