Teen Bridemaid Dress?

Jade8, 26 June, 2015 at 22:04 Posted on Planning 0 9

I'm going to have 4 bridesmaids, 3 of which are 'grown up' which isn't a problem, but the other one is my fiance's niece who will be coming up to 13 on the day of the wedding. She's going to be at that funny age where the grown up dresses aren't really going to be suitable but then she's too old for a child dress. I would also like them all to look very similar if not matching! For the main dresses I think they're going to be strapless and floaty. Has anyone had any experience in teen bridesmaids and know of any designers or high street shops (not too expensive mind!) that cater for a variety of ages in the same style dress?

Thank you so much!!

Is she a developed, tall 13yr old, or a thin, child like shape? At 13, I would have fitted an adult size 10 dress. What size is she? If she would fit an 'adult sized dress' (even with some alterations) you shouldn't have a problem finding something in most high street stores- Debenhams, BHS, asos, monsoon, coast etc.

If the strapless look is a bit much, she could have a bolero jacket or lacey cardigan.

These are mine for my two teenage bridesmaids aged 14 & 11. Both a tall for their age and strapless was too old for them so these were great and age appropriate even though adult dresses. From BHS

She is quite tall and although not skinny she doesn't have an adult shape yet which is the problem - although she would fit in an adult dress it wouldn't really look right!

I love that BHS dress, I think it's something like that I'm after that blends in with the others Smiley smile

I've seen a couple of teen bridesmaids who have had the same dress as the adults but then the top was adjusted for them, for example boning taken out, sweetheart neckline altered to a straight one, chunky straps added in the same fabric fit and flare changed into a line. Do essentially the same dress but just the more grown up features taken out.

I've just taken measurements for my almost 12 year old bridesmaid, who is tall and slender, and there is no way she is fitting into the kids dresses I've seen - she isn't particularly developed but the kids dresses I've seen appear to only allow for an entirely flat chest, and that ship has sailed. Don't rule out a ladies dress, after all there are many fully developed ladies who are lacking in shape in certain areas, so you might just need to be selective about style.

www.sexyher.co.uk in Surrey has been mentioned on another forum I'm a member of, and they can do custom sizes.

I was bridesmaid at a wedding and a younger one was 13, we had the strapless floor length debut dresses from debenhams but the 13year old had the knee length one with a bolero in the same colour and material, looked lovely

My 14 year old daughter was my bridesmaid. I got her dress from Monsoon. It's an adults one but suited her perfectly

My neice will also be almost 13 when she is my bridesmaid. She is not a womanly shape yet. She would have got away with a woman's size 6 but they are few and far between. We had almost given up until we went into BHS. They have a selection of specific teen BM dresses, some matching grown up styles, some not. My grown up BM dresses were from House of Fraser, a lovely pale dusky rose. My neices dress is a really good match in both colour and style. And it was only about £35! I cannot recommend BHS enough, i was so surprised. Oh and the sizes seem to come up really big, my neice is in a size down than normal and there is still growing room.

Thanks for all of the advice guys, it's seems BHS is the place to go! Although I do like the idea of making alterations to a grown up dress to make it more age appropriate. I guess I will have to see what works in budget Smiley smile

I got my teenage daughter's bridesmaid dress from Debut at Debenhams in a size 8. it fits her well. She didn't want a long dress, so we opted for just below the knee.
