Teeny rant

Weather Girl, 17 March, 2009 at 17:12 Posted on Planning 0 12

I noticed this morning that I've got 199 days to go ? and I'm actually feeling rather calm and organised right now. I've decided on my ideas for flowers and table decs, which was the main thing that was bugging me, so feel much better now things are clear in my mind.

There's just a few things that people keep bringing up which are starting to annoy me slightly.

The first thing being the invitations. I've ordered them so they're in the process of being made, which I think gives me plenty of time considering our wedding isn't until 2nd October! But a couple of people (mainly H2B's family) keep asking "have you sorted your invites yet? You want to hurry up and get those out...". Now I know it's a Friday wedding and I'm taking into account that people may need a bit more notice but jeez, I thought it was my job to stress out!

Secondly, apparently our wedding "must be costing a fortune" all because we're having chair covers. I sometimes think they think I'm this crazy bride to be being all extravagent in my buying, but as I keep politely pointing out, I'm not having bridesmaids or a car or a hairdresser and we're not having to pay for our photographer as she's a family friend. So we have spare capacity in our budget for this sort of thing, plus we are paying for the wedding ourselves with the exception of the flowers. And to be honest, our wedding is actually going to be pretty reasonable budget wise and a lot less that H2B brother's wedding a few years ago (I just wonder if they said the same to him at the time!).

Thirdly, I'm being told I should do my make up myself as someone else doesn't always know what colours suit best, etc. But isn't that the whole point in having a professional make-uppy person to do the makeup; they know this stuff....

Lastly, my hen do. I quite fancied a spa but apparently I should try this out beforehand in case I don't like it and it could be boring. Sounds like heaven to me....

Anyway, bit of a pointless post only I needed to vent some frustration. I'm actually feeling good about things lol and I know people are only trying to help. I'm sure most of you are having similar experiences.

    Hey,

    I'm having chair covers too.

    And favours

    So sue me....!!!

Don't worry about it all - just keep going it's your day and your hen do. As if you didn't have enough to think about!! People just don't think - and don't realise everyone else is making the same comments

Why is it when you start planning a wedding suddenly everyone thinks they know better than you do!

I would tell them to mind their own business,,, actually im to polite for that i would just rant on here and let it go over my head to be honest!!

    Hello

It's none of their bleedin business about how much it costs.

We didn't get our invites out til last week - wedding in it under 7 weeks time - to be fair we did want to get them out sooner! You have plenty of time so just ignore them Smiley winking

And the spa sounds lush to me too - it;s your hen and you get to choose. If you happen to find it dull then you can organise a boozy night out afterwards !

    xx

I sympathise....I've had no end of 'input' from the family about what the right thing to do is...I just tell them it's mine and my H2B's day so butt out!! On your last point...I fail to see how any spa day can be boring...it's the most relaxing and enjoyable thing you could do before youre big day....tell the interferrers to get stuffed and as for the spa...go for it!!

Thanks for the replies everyone - feel much better now! I read too much into things sometimes and then let it get to me but I guess I just have to let it all go over my head.

A spa hen night/weekend sounds like heaven to me as well...maybe we should go on our own ?

Chair covers, I'm having them as they really transform the room.

Make up artist...that's what make up TRIALS are for.

Invitations...you know they are getting sorted, they should know (without asking) that they are getting sorted

Do they want a list of everything you have done?

Don't let anything of what they said bother you, it's all in hand and it will be a great day ?

Just wanted to say what everyone else has - its your day.

For the people who are going on about money you could just stop telling them everything you're planning - as loobyg says OR tell them you won a competition!!!!

Someone said to me once "only listen to things you want to, not what anyone wants you to listen to" is that too profound for a Wednesday morning??

Why is it that everyone thinks you actually want their opinion?! I have organised my whole wedding on my own and have loved doing it. I've had opinions offered left right and centre without asking for them and just smiled then ignored them! Think that's definately what you have to do!

Friends and family (particularly the in-laws!) usually have far too much to say for themselves but unfortunately you can't scream at them and have a fall out so you just need to let it go over your head. Thank them for their opinions then mutter something offensive under your breath!

Good luck-I think we're all going through this!

*big sticky tongue out face blowing raspberries* to everyone that bugs you!

And i don't know about your spa, but the one that me and my OH have been to a few times serves champagne and wine! If you get bored.. then get pissed! haha! x

I think part of the problem is that we have actually told them very little about what we're planning, mainly because don't want people to turn up and know what to expect, and I think they're probably a little miffed that we're not telling them anything. My mum has sworn us to secrecy regarding colours, flowers...well everything really. And they do all keep offering their help but to be honest I haven't really got much for people to help with as it's kinda all sorted or something that H2B/me have to deal with.

Weddings hey! I'm so relieved you all see where I'm coming from though ?
