Mine was really not romantic in the conventional sense, which was strange for OH because he usually likes to be a bit flash with things like that! ? but it was definitely a special moment. We had only been together 8 months, so it had been a bit of a whirlwind, and were cuddled up in bed one night (at his parents, as we weren't living together and were both still at home!) and were just having a bit of a lovey-dovey moment, I was explaining to him how I could really imagine us being together forever and doing the whole marriage and kids thing in the distant future, and he literally just turned around and said "Why does it have to happen in the distant future?" and I was just silent, then he just came out with "I mean it, will you marry me?!"

After that I just kept repeating "Are you serious?" several times, then burst into tears and said yes. Then at the weekend we went shopping for a ring and bought it there and then, and then announced it to both our families seperately. It was lovely when he told my family too, as he actually almost did the traditional 'asking for permission' thing, (even though we'd already decided we were engaged anyway!) and told my parents over a meal he absolutely adored me and would love their approval to marry me. Do hasten to add, he didn't need their approval as I am clearly a grown woman who can make my own choices! But it was just a nice way of doing it. ?

That was in February 2006, and we decided to leave it a few years before getting married as we wanted to buy a place together first and also save up so we could pay for the wedding ourselves. So we had a big engagement party to celebrate, then bought our flat together in November 2006 and are still living there now. We booked our wedding last summer for July next year.

    Sorry for the fluff overdose!

I have been engaged for 3 and a half years ( we are very laid back lol)

I got frog marched up a cliff called Baggy point when we were on holiday in Devon. It takes at least 2 hours to walk around it at a comfortable pace. I got dragged though they middle by my other half in less that 30 minutes. When we got the top i was sweating, i felt sick. I thought my lungs was going to explode and my hair was all stuck to my face.

He dragged me over to a bench and sat me down. The view was really beautiful. Then we watched the sun setting and just before it disappeared he asked me to marry him.

After the excitment of the moment i realised we had to get back down again. if you think walking up a 500 foot steep cliff is bad you try walking down it !!

The holiday had been so wonderful, Richs mum and dad treated us to a beautiful appartment on the beach, we celebrated my birthday there a few days before and my son was only 3 months old so my mil to be took care of the kids so i could have a break. Rich had been trying to save for my engagement ring so he could do it all properly but hadnt got all the money together in time so had planned to wait and then changed his mind.

He wanted to get me something in white gold quite big but i had my eye on a ring for about 2 years ( work at a jewellers) which was half the price and exactlly what i wanted and just my size ( i knew this as i tried it on everyday!!) so i didnt have to wait either.

I always joke that he must have been serious to ask me when i looked that bad, he always jokes that he only did it there so if i said no he could push me off the edge!

It was our two year anniversary last saturday, on the 7th, and we had a table booked for dinner. I knew all day he was going to do it because we'd chosen my ring two weeks before. We had our dinner and he said 'i think we should go for a walk' even though it was freezing cold and snowing. We walked around the corner to Lincoln Cathedral and he pulled me around in front of it for a bit trying to find the perfect spot and in the end i just said i knew what he was going to do and would he please get on with it? So he turned to me and said do you want to be with me forever and i nodded and he said so will you marry me? all i said was 'are you serious?' and he said yes and i cried. Then he tried to put my pretend ring on my finger (my real one was still being fixed in the shop) but i made him get down on one knee and ask me again! I cried all the way home!

I got engaged in Disneyland Florida on Christmas Day 2005. H wanted to propose under Cinderellas Castle however the park was really busy and so we moved to a different park and instead got engaged under Mickey's hat. I knew it was coming during the holiday but i wasn't sure when.

We got married Aug 2008 so we'd been engaged about 2 and a half years by the time we got married

    Oh wow, the romance ?

We went to Antwerp for the weekend. He took me to choose the ring and I was expecting the proposal over dinner. He took me up to the ballroom in the hotel though where he'd had a table set up with flowers and champagne and asked there. He said he wanted at least part of it to be a surprise ?

We got engaged last October, just before my birthday. I had been ill for about a year & always said I hated being 25 because of that. He proposed saying that he wanted me to remember something good about being 25...we have been together for over 8 years & plan to get married next May!

Mine didn't involve anything spectacular. It was quiet and personal which is my H all over.

It was two days before Christmas 2006. I woke up and he was wide awake staring at me. I could see a little ring box out of he corner of my eye and he asked me three questions.

'Do you love me?' I answered, yes!

'Do you want to spend forever with me?' I answered, yes!

'Will you marry me?' I said yes. We had a cuddle in bed ? and then got up and did the Xmas food shop. We spent Xmas telling and celebrating with our family and friends.

We got married in May 2008 so were engaged around 17 months although I admit, it flew by!

He keeps asking if it was romantic enough as he had originally planned a eleborate proposal in Edinburgh by my work's conference got in the way and I couldn't go on the night out he had arranged. B*gger!! But in my eyes, it was perfect. Yes the big elaborate proposal is every girls dream but I was engaged to be married to the man I loved and that was perfect enough for me!!

It was a few years ago. We were sat in the garden late at night, having a few glasses of something cold and fizzy, and we got talking about marriage. Then he picked a flower off the bush behind me and got down on one knee. Then he phoned my dad and asked his permission. I got my ring for christmas 6 months later, hidden in a sock i think! I still have the flower he gave to me! (dried)

We had known each other only about 3 months but we were both pretty sure how we felt about each other. We had gone to a quiz night with my family and my dad (who mucks about like this with all our boyfriends) turned to D and said "shall I book the hall then?" Lots of laughing, but in the car on the way home, he turned to me and said "so do you want to then?" I said, cos I wasn't really thinking about it, "do what?" "Get married". I looked at him and he had a big grin on his face and his hand were shaking. I smiled and replied "I think we were meant to". D's smile got even bigger and he took my hand and held it all the way back to my place. Originally, we were going to get engaged next New Year, but he bought my ring in January and we've booked the wedding for November. Its a second marriage for us both, but it feels like the first time.

We got engaged in November 2007, getting married this year may 30th. The day he proposed was my birthday and I knew he had booked somewhere for us to stay. He told me that before we checked in we had somewhere else to go first. We went to Luss, a wee place on the banks of Loch Lomond, we had gone there on our first date. He proposed at the spot where we had our first kiss, all very romantic! He got down on one knee to do it and all I could say was to tell him to get up! Because it was in November there was no one else around so it seemed very private and lovely!

We got engaged 4th January 2007 and we get married 17th September this year.

The proposal came completely out of the blue. We'd been together 4 years at the time and that particular night after tea he was playing with our son (who was 2 at the time) drawing on his megasketcher and he said to him "Go and show mummy!". My little boy came trotting over holding up the megasketcher with the words "Will you please marry me?" written on it. I just smiled and said "Aaahh!" but when I looked up OH was down on one knee with a ring box in his hand!!! I just couldn't get my breath!! Not particularly romantic but just really really lovely and still makes me smile as I hadn't got a clue it was coming.

In the end I got a friend to make a jigsaw puzzle of a photo of the two of us (Its my avetar) with 'will you marry me' written on it and mae him to a treasure hunt round the house to find the pieces!! Turned out he could remember all his previous proposals and was too shy to say anything!! We were engaged 15 months and have now been married for 3 months

Apologies to those who have heard this story before!

Iain had been planning to propose for a while. The ring was bought, but he just needed the right moment to do the deed.

As it was his birthday in Aug and because he's so lovely and had done so much for me, I'd booked a day trip to Paris as a surprise!

I told him the day before and Iain decided that Paris was too good an opportunity to miss. Eiffel tower - perfect! So we got the 5:45 train from Farnborough, and off we went.

Now the weather forecast had been for cold and rain, so imagine our surprise when we stepped off the train in Paris in our fleeces and wet weather gear to find it was 30 degrees and brilliant sunshine!

I'd bought a massive rucksack, so we stuffed as much of our clothing in there and got on with it. Iain had never been to Paris before, so I was keen to show him all the main sites. So off we went to the Sacre Coeur.

Boy was it hot! Then we went to the Arc de Triomph.

Iain was pleased to see the Eiffel Tower on the horizon. We were getting closer!!

We arrived at the Eiffel Tower to find massive queues. It was so hot, that they were spraying the crowd with water. I realised that we were probably looking at a 3 hour queue. So asked Iain how desperate he was to go up the tower.

Iain was shuffling from foot to foot and looking very uncomfortable - all this plans were falling apart! He suggested a romantic river cruise instead. So off we trotted to find a nice boat.

On the boat, there were announcements every 30 seconds! Iain decided that if he did propose there, that I wouldn't even hear it! Plus we were getting seriously sunburnt!

Anyway, by this time, we were running out of time. I suggested that we have a quick look at the Place de la Concorde but then we really would have to get back to the train! Iain was starting to panic by this time!

So off we went to the Place de la Concorde.

After I took the above pic, I said, right that's it off we go. I was nearly at the metro when I was grabbed by a hot sunburnt Iain who said "I'm going to do it now!" I was a bit surprised by this to say the least. Iain then said in a rather flustered fashion and not down on one knee "will you marry me?" "yes, but I'm really hot and need some more water." I replied - having missed the point somewhat! "No really - Will you marry me?" asked Iain a little more insistently/desperately. At this point I did realise that he was serious - especially when a ring was being proffered so we both started crying and obviously I said yes!

And the rest is history - that was August last year, and we get married in November!

Sorry - it was a rather long story! Hope the pics made it less boring!

I love cupcakes from a particular bakery in London, so Will ordered two dozen cupcakes from there, and had them iced to spell out... .

    JOSEPHINE WILL YOU MARRY ME?

It took me a few moments out what was going on, because my first thought upon opening the box was, "CUPCAKES" and then I just wanted to eat them all. Then I noticed they had something iced on them, and afer a moment or two I realised they were letters, and I assumed they just spelt out 'I love you' or something. However, as I looked at each cupcake, I began to get the idea of what they were spelling out before my eyes and I could feel this massive grin appear on my face.

I answered by picking out three cupcakes from the box, spelling out YES, and the rest is history!

That was in March 2005, so we've been engaged almost four years, which wasn't planned. As I've mentioned in another post, we've already set a date twice, only for me to fall pregnant and for my due date to fall very close to the date we'd set on each occasion. We're hoping this is third time lucky and that we won't have any more happy accidents!

We've been engaged for nearly 6 years. Mr P proposed whilst he was stationed in Iraq, on a short phone call and I was mid-sentence telling him about the usual rubbish weather in this country.

When he came home on leave in the October I made him propose again in our favourite spot but typically he still did it in his own unique style. Out on a hillside eating lunch laying down with his head on my lap.

It wasn't quite what I had in mind but I wouldn't have it any other way, it just wouldn't have been him.

We're now planning to get married in August 2010.

Steve and I met in Australia 6 years ago. We had mentioned getting engaged about this time last year but always thought he was joking and as he is so laid back, never thought he'd get around to doing it.

I looked at rings, and he actually bought one for me. We went camping in Cornwall last July and I knew Steve wanted to propose at some point during the weekend. But as we went with friends, the timing was always wrong and the weather horrendous! The ring came with us, and I actually carried it with me the whole time for 'safe keeping' in my handbag (typical boy...always looses things!!)

On the way back home though, we stopped at Boscastle and Steve proposed to me whilst we were sat on the cliffs watching the waves break on the rocks. Very romantic and a very special weekend.

We are getting married in October and can't wait to be Mrs Chappell!

    Some lovely stories girls.

It was on NYE 08/09, which is also my birthday and our 5th anniversary of getting together (I think he just likes everything to be on one day as it's easier to remember).

We were supposed to be going to a dinner and dance with H2Bs uni friends in London and staying in a Travelodge. It actually turned out to be the Hilton and there were no uni friends, or a restaurant. Instead we went on a boat on the Thames, which stopped outside Houses of Parliament for midnight.

I expected it a little as it was our 5 year anniversary and once I knew it was the Hilton and a boat I thought it would possibly happen, but also kept telling myself it's just a nice birthday surprise so I wouldn't be disappointed if it didn't happen.

Apparently to ask me at midnight would have been too obvious and corny, and he was right as I was expecting it to happen then if it did. so he waited about a minute after. That was the most disappointing minute of my life!

When we went back to the hotel Only Men Aloud (of Last Choir Standing) were in the bar and we spent a lot of the night chatting away to them. I also went to the toilet way more times than I needed just so I could tell people as the phone lines were all busy and I didn't want to spend the night on the phone either (I had called mum and best friend though).

There were kind of two proposals. We'd had lots of "this is forever" conversations. Then we were are my step-brother's wedding. OH looked at me and said "what if that was us at the top table?". I replied "Well that would mean we were getting married" to which he was silent. So I said "fancy it?" and he started doing a cheesy victory dance chanting "you just asked me to marry you..you just asked me to marry you"....(he's a big wean!).

A few months later we were in bed whilst staying at his sister's place (just cuddling!) and he simply said "marry me". I said yes and he was all like "no, really, I'm being serious" and I said "I know, so am I"

We decided to keep it quiet for a while, but told everyone in January, then got my ring, getting married in November. Can't wait!

We had been talking about getting engaged for a while and I had my suspicions that Nick may proposed while we were away on holiday (we had a holiday booked to visit Jamaica in November and my fiancé’s b'day fell over the dates we were away for)

When we got to our resort we checked out the spa treatments which were gorgeous. Unbeknown to me, Nick had already been in touch with the manager of our hotel to let them know he was planning to propose, he then somehow dropped my engagement ring to them - although still to this date i'm not sure how as he pretty much didn't leave my sight for the majority of the holiday!) We decided on booking a couples massage which was carried out at the end of a pier - bliss! At the end of the treatment, the therapists sat us both down, looking out to sea, and gave me three red roses.... in the middle of the centre rose was my engagement ring! I turned to Nick and he asked me to marry him! It almost didn't seem real, especially as we sat there with the therapists singing us a song about getting married.

We now plan on having Chamberry to drink at our wedding (Champagne and Cranberry juice) as this is what we were drinking when Nick proposed. We are also toying with the idea of naming our tables after places we have visited, rather than numbering so Ocho Rios, Jamaica could well be the top table!

P.S. Nick had been to ask my mum's permission to ask me, before the holiday! Apparently he was pretty nervous before hand, although he gets on great with my mum.

I also felt it was the right time to tell him he was about to be dad too!! I had a girl who is now 4 and also gave birth to another girl 6 weeks ago, so this week have just booked for us to get married next April in Cuba.

Your proposal stories have given me a lump in my throat all so individual and so romantic in there own way, congratulations everyone !

I had a very romantic engagement(well i think it is anyway !)? I et my h2b in romania whilst on a skiing holiday there, he isnt romanian which is what everybody asks he was on holiday too, we were kind of meant to meet on this hol if you get what i mean, we were sat across from each other on the aeroplane, his room was straight across from ours and we both went down for dinner together at the same time. The day we got together-kissed! (wednesday) i didnt realise but my nan died, before i left to go on holiday she told me she would find me my handsome prince and i believe to this day she did !

it was our three year anniversary on the 1st febuary this year and we were going to go to romania again for a hol, but couldnt go (no snow ha ha!) we ended up going to the french alps. I didnt expect him to propose this year because we werent in romania , but on our second trip up the mountain just after lunch we got half way down on our snowboards and he decided he needed to stop "because his feet where hurting " ! I said "come on dont be so soft" ha ha! he took ages messing around at the side of the slope watching all the people coming down the slope behind us and hopping from foot to foot . I was getting a bit frustrated and wanting to get on when he says "just before we go, ive got something to ask you !" he got down to his knee and produced a small box at which i started to scream I think he then continued to ask me to marry him but i cant confirm that as i was way to busy screaming and staring at my beautiful ring! sorry to go on but this has to be the best moment of my life so far !

this is me and the h2b seconds after !!

My H booked a surprise week to New York for my birthday. It was winter and he must have remembered that I had seen a romantic film where the boyfriend proposed on an outdoor ice-rink. He did the same. On one knee too!

We celebrated with a bottle of champers in a rotating restaurant at the top of a hotel in Times Square.

The next day he took me to Tiffany & Co. and forced me to choose a ring, lol Smiley winking

We were married 9 months later in 2006 and are now expecing our 2nd child!
