Tell me all about fake tan please!!

claireac, 14 April, 2009 at 14:15 Posted on Planning 0 25

I'm one of these people who is normally quite happy to stay a pasty white colour!! I do tan, but very slowly. Even more so since my sister got malignant melanoma a few years ago and made us all paranoid!

I would like some colour for my big day, and also so I'm not glaringly white on honeymoon. I've never had a fake tan done in my life. I've had a got myself over the years, but only on my legs.

Please tell all!! I don't want to look tango'd............ have seen a recent weddingy example of this - yikes!!

Don't care about the bedding (any excuse for lovely new stuff!), but I def do not want to look like an oompa loompa!!

Normally just slap a bit of that Johnsons holiday wotsit stuff on..........

Dont bother with the fake tan, it is inevitable you will end up orange!

Just start using the holiday skin products and they gradually build up some colour and dont streak.

Plus if you use fake tan, never mind the sheets, it will RUIN your wedding dress, esp if you sweat!

I personally dont like the JOhnsons one because it smells hideous on me, i can recomend the Olay one as that smells nicer and lasts longer

That's that decided then!! See, I only needed telling haha.

Shoegal - will give the Olay one a try as I'm nearly out of Johnsons.

Just have to persuade h2b that he's doing my back! ? I'm sure he wants some though..................

I'm blonde and fair skinned, I decided to give Lancome Flash Bronzer a go and got so many comments from my friends asking if I had been on holiday! Its the best stuff ever. I've converted so many people to it... i seem to remember it being a bit pricey but you don't have to use much and it can be used on your face too. If you have a spare weekend give it a try on a friday night so if you hate it at least you can hide in all weekend to scrub it off! I've had spray tans too.. very hit or miss though so wouldn't recommend it for your wedding. I saw an advert the other day for a wash off one, don't know if it stays on without running or getting on your clothes but worth a test run as you can just wash it off straight away!

Im all for spray tans and have had lots myself but some products are obviously better than others. The one I use has different shades dependent on your skin tone and the lightest one is so subtle that you just look "sunkissed" as opposed to looking like you have had a tan done.

I'm in Hampshire too so I can send you some more info on it if you want to email me? *******@**********.***

My old cat at home (Suffolk home) who is 17 years old has feet that smell of cheese.

    {leans over to smell Moustache's feet.}

Why would you smell your cats paws???? ?

I know what a mess mine makes with her litter tray - so not going near her paws!! I even wipe them with baby wipes if I can catch her.........

H2b has no sense of smell, so I just tell him everything smell delicious!! He's going to kill me when he finally gets his op and can smell again. He had one last year, and was a nightmare with smells for weeks. Then everything went wrong again!!

My cat doesn't have a litter tray - she does everythign outdoors (presumably in someone else's garden as I never find any evidence in mine!)

And she smells lovely! except her breath. Thats a bit 'meaty'. ?

I've just bought the Loreal sublime bronze self tanning gel and so far so good! I'm so pale i look like the living dead, but this one goes on gradually so you don't end up like a tangerine!

On the topic of cheesy and biscuity paws, my dog has cheesy feet, but my cat's paws smell like digestive biscuits, how odd! Now i have to explain to H2B why i'm sniffing the pets! Hitched makes you do the strangest things! ?

I don't think she's particularly messy, I just worry about it as I have an almost 3yr old. Neurotic mother!! Kitty (the cat!) is just coming up to 6 months old and we had her spayed last Tuesday - so she'll be able to go out very soon. Can't wait to get rid of the litter tray - yuck!!

Moomin - thank you for the recommendation, will give that one a go too!!

Up until two years ago I used Fake Bake for special occasions. Never had a problem or streak with it but it wasn't suitable for a wedding as its hardly "natural glow". So a year before my wedding I tried out San Tropez - FAB STUFF! It is a lot lighter than Fake Bake and wears off really evenly and gradually. Have found an amazing beautician and every tan I have had with her has been perfect. Have seen and heard horror stories with San Tropez so you'd need to find someone that is excellent and have a trial beforehand. I still do use Fake Bake now and again for nights out and parties when I've forgotten to book an appointment but San Tropez is much better, although it doesn't last as long.

Whereabouts are you in Hampshire? The beautican I go to is in Bitterne outside Southampton - she's that good that my friend travels from near Ringwood in Dorset to go to her for tan and nails!!

On topic: if you're fair, steer clear of fake tan unless you want to look as though you've eaten too many carrots. Sorry to whoever this might offend, but in my opinion, fake tan just looks like Jordan.... chavvy.

Off topic: I wouldn't dare try and sniff Harvey's paws as he'd take my nose off.

As Ali says, please try and stick to "proper" skin tones, no one likes a mahogany bride!

Apparently I smell like 'coconut OXO cubes' when I use Boots own self tan - it works pretty well, but don't put it on for more than two nights in a row or you'll go a bit orange.

I feel deprived that I have no pets to sniff!

You really aren't missing out! I only smelt Moustache's, but I wont go near Smudge, I'd hate to think what's on her feet! (she's a bit "special" when it comes to going to the toilet)

I too must 'big up' the San Tropez... I get married next week and have had my trial run - it is very natural looking and fades gradually... I think u should have a trial run one weekend when you have nothing else to do..

i too have sniffed my cats paws (so glad HTB is upstairs watching the footie) and i know where you are coming from with the biscuit smell!!!

    Hi,

I am very very pale and I had a San Tropez tan (it was the rub in one not the spray one) done about a year ago. The results were very good and I didn't look orange at all and it was pretty natural looking.

I'm not having a tan for my wedding though as I'm worried ti will ruin my dress!!

Besides I quite like being pale anyway!!

    KATxx
