Tell me honestly if this is a ridiculous idea!

6 October, 2013 at 16:09 Posted on Planning 0 18

So yesterday I visited my venue and they told me about a wedding party that had brought rounders gear with them and had a match to entertain people (kinda like garden jenga and stuff). They took it really seriously apparently, but after my initial reaction of "omg that's weird", I started to think it would actually be quite fun! Obviously it wouldn't be taken as seriously as they did!

So my question for you guys is do you think it's a stupid idea? I've asked some guests and I've already got enough volunteers for nearly 2 full teams which is all you need! I thought it would make some really good photos too haha. I never thought of doing anything out of the ordinary at my wedding but it does sound really fun...

Discuss. Smiley smile

A few garden games often do go down well (as per Canary's wedding report!).

My main concern would be that people are dressed for a wedding...

    I think it's a good idea.

If I thought I'd get good weather I'd get a few outdoors games like giant jenga etc, but I just don't know what the weather will be like for me as it differs so much from one year to another.

Its not what we would do (most our guests on my side are disabled so couldn't play so it wouldn't be fair) but it sounds fun especially if you have time where the guests are waiting around (such as when photos are being done)

    I'd love that.

Much more fun than being "entertained" by a magician (or similar cringy stuff)

We had loads of plans like that, but with bouncy castle, jenga, limbo etc we just didn't. We took a ball for 5 a side and ties for 3-leggeds, but it was beautiful hot day and in the end everyone seemed quite happy to stay looking as smart and sweat-free as possible. As the bride, no, but as a guest, I reckon I'd do it with warning.

I'd definitely be up for it but then we did it!

Have a look at my report, it's not 100% finished yet but the video on the first post will give you an idea

Oh and we did prewarn our guests but then we had tug of war and it was all on grass. The warning on the website went

'There will be games and activities going on throughout the day on a grassed area so please consider this when choosing your outfit!'

Would LOVE this! Our venue won't allow ball games so rounders is out but we're planning to have garden games

It sounds like great fun - although you may have to warn the lady guests to bring some more suitable shoes to run in!

We had a massive BBQ in the park for my mum's 50th birthday and we had a couple of games of rounders and it was brilliant. Quite a few of us were in flip flops though which made it a tad difficult to run but it was such a laugh.

I think its a fab idea and would pass some time in a fun way. I would just be worried that no one will play would need to bribe my brothers into being the trend setters and getting a game going Smiley smile

I like it! We're having lawn games - giant jenga, giant connect 4 and boules. Maybe you could do a little basket with flip flops in for the girls? This could then be used if people start getting tired feet when they're dancing later as well.
