tennis elbow i think

Sandysounds, 17 June, 2009 at 02:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

In agony...think i have damaged the tendons in my arm.....so tennis elbow (although I haven't played in years!)

I rang the doctor this morning........and can't get an appointment till next Wednesday..... a whole week of agony. So I was looking to try and sort it out myself. Does anyone know whether gentle exercise or imobilisation is the bestcure?

This is probably the worst injury I could get being a mobile DJ. My speakers are heavier than me....and i work alone......and i'm out most weekends.

    Hi Sandy

I am a tennis elbow sufferer and I ended up having a course of physio to treat it. Never played tennis in my life!

Whether you have it or not I suppose depends on where the pain is in your arm. For me it is not actually in the elbow but in the lower part and i found that I could not stretch my arm out without it hurting, and could not even reach out and pick up a cup of tea when it was at its worst.

You can get special straps that take the pressure off your tendons/muscles. i wore mine for abourt 3 months.

    O xx

edited to add: straps like these, not the most elegant things in the world, but do the trick.

Turning on the tap does it for me. Thanks for the suggestion, going to take a trip into town and look at getting a strap. To be honest, if it helps ease the pain, I'm not bothered if i look like Frankenstein.

If it is tennis elbow (and it may not be as I'm not a medic so disclaimer!) then you can get sraps which fasten with velcro and allow you to position a padded bit over the 'spot' - it puts pressure onto the sore bit and relieves the pain. I had recurring tennis elebow and eventually had to have ultrasound treatment for it. I still get twinges of it from time to time but fortunately, never as badly as I used to (boy did it hurt truning the car steering wheel!).

Hope you manage to get some relief for your 'ouch' soon!
