As part of my research into whether my summer holiday is too good of a deal to cancel [:I] I was wondering if anyone could advise on whether we have a reasonably good deal or not. According to Virgin it looks like a good enough price (plus we've paid a small deposit)

So 10 nights in a 4 star hotel in Koh Samui followed by 2 nights in a 4 star in Bangkok in July (I think they are 4 stars will check)- how much would you expect to pay - 2 adults, standard rooms I think...

I went backpacking in southern thailand and just bought my flight so cant help with package but if you arewilling to do so id advise getting a flight there and booking accomodation when you get there its so cheap over there i think for 3 of us on a 4* beach hut it was £45 a week including our taxis, youll find touts at the airport which is tiny with brocures of places, but cheack the places before you pay as some aint that nice we looked in the rooms b4 booking

Well, we cant answer in terms of "how much would you expect to pay" since we dont know the hotel. if youre concerned, check the room price direct with the hotels and compare it.

i m not really sure what youre asking.

which is the KS hotel? I might know it and could give you a view on the place

Prices in July and August will be cheaper as it's the rainy season.

I would be prepared to pay anything between £800 and £1500 per person but like NickJ says it is hard to really give a figure without knowing what the hotels look like and what is included (meals etc.)

We came back from Koh Samui at the beginning of March and stayed at the Sala Samui. I can't remember exactly but our final bill for 12 nights, including what we spent on drinks and food, was about £3,500. We booked our flights separately.

No - we don't have kids and would never have taken them there. Imagine our horror on day 7 (after no neighbours) to have a two-year old princess pitch up in the room next door. Thankfully, they took her to the beach every day.

    nothing

i asked because i talked to an english woman at length whilst floating about in one of the pools there, and i wanted to see if that woman was ginger. or fred.

besides, that hotel is not that child friendly, thankfully.

the most obnoxious group. They were so rude to the staff. Mum and daughter shared the same micro mini and bikinis and they took over the beach.

?definitely not us. We kept ourselves pretty much to ourselves. Usually at the bar for happy hour (H was in love with Apple), ate fairly early and retired fairly early. Didn't spend much time on the beach once the French arrived.

But it was a lovely, lovely holiday, despite the weather, and definitely somewhere I will go again!!

Now I'm going through the people:

Guy with long hair and wife/girlfriend who got the hump when I made it clear I didn't like them smoking whilst I was eating.
Late thirties couple, very much in love, dark haired wife, used to wear a white kaftan thing to breakfast
Ummm ... I'll try and remember some more.

Oops had to go on lunch

Tripadvisor I think have it as 3 star but I'm sure I've also read 4 and 5 star about it too

http://www.santiburi.com/bophut_resort/ and it's looking like it's about £1500 for accomodation there (no flights or Bangkok)

Apparently Koh Samui should be OK for weater in July due to it's location? Well as ok as they can predict ?

    Thanks all so far.

Slimdebs - I know but I'm crap and they rang to say we have another few days before deciding [:I]

    Edited because I'm stupid!

The smoking couple - did she have shortish blonde hair? and he was big as in rotund? id so theyre dutch, and we got on with them famously.

dark haired wife, late 30's couple, doesnt ring a bell. did you see the pissing woman? bleached blonde hair, about 45, kept going for a wee during breakfast, and then when on the beach, kept walking back to the loo in the bar for mre weeing.

was it just the two of you? where did you spend the most time pool wise? or bar etc?

it was apples wedding anniversary on the 28th feb btw

No - they were definitely English. She looked older than him and he was a bit chubby with a ponytail. Dreadful people.

we were there from the 22nd until the 5th (i think). Don't remember the bleach blond woman. There was one who let her young son run riot in the restaurant. And a charming young girl who, walking through breakfast, sneezed and wiped it on the back of someone's chair .....

When the weather was nice, we were at the beach in the morning and then our villa for the afternoon.

Ahhh .... did you take a canoe out?

    No, no canoe.

we arrived on the 13th, and left on the 27th. we were with our very camp mates (two guys), and ate with them most of the time. madam is tall, just under 6' and slim, short brunette, i m 6'5 (and i m not telling you more than that due to hitched weirdos), and the other two guys, one is a similar height to me, short brown hair, and the other is shorter, about 5'8, also short brown hair. we ate breakfast in the upper bit up the steps, and were often to be found by the bar around 6, and then vert late with dinner and post dinner, and quite loud

Yep - I remember the group but, you will be pleased to know, not individuals specifically!!

We only went to the bar after the first five or so days and there was never anyone there.

I'm tall, blonde and chubby, H is short, round and bald. We weren't quite part of the body beautiful brigade ?

?I think we managed to avoid you. We ate early for breakfast as we couldn't stand the busier time and ate quite early. Also, in the first few days we tried a few other places and then realised that all the tripadvisor reviews that the food was too expensive and you could eat really cheaply down the beach were a lie. The food on the beach was dreadful. I thought Sala was fantastic value considering the service. We tried the one around the corner (sister restaurant) and didn't quite get the tiny portions ...

And, sorry, but I just didn't get Just Jonno's.

How the other half live ?

We're in NI so it will still mean stopping in London so we're probably as well from Dublin if at all.

Our flights look like they are about £1000 each which sounds steep to me but the furthest I've flown is to NYC but I don't know who they with to check (one sirline is China Airlines though)
