"That time of the month" on the day...

fayef, 18 August, 2014 at 19:02 Posted on Planning 0 7

Afternoon all,

Sorry for the slightly cringey/embarrassing post, but I need some advice!

I've been getting 'lady cramps' all day, and had a mini panic earlier because I double checked my diary and realized I'm due next week, and if it's bang on time it will be er.... in full swing lets say, on the big day! Smiley sad
For me, this feels like the worst thing that could ever happen on my wedding. My dress isn't big, but it will be slightly awkward to attend to things as I do have a small hoop in the petticoat and it's got a built in corset so its hard to bend over very far! Also, I don't want to ruin my ever so fancy underwear! AND obviously, if we aren't too tired... Smiley winking

Anyway, I did a bit of Googling, and apparently there is a mediation you can take to delay your period called Norethisterone, that doctors prescribe. There are various places online that talk about it being prescribed to people who have special occasions that they want to delay it for, BUT you can't trust everything that Google comes up with!

* Apparently, the combined pill can also do the trick, but I appear to have an intolerance to prolonged exposure to synthetic hormone, after trying the pill, implant and marina coil and them all giving me chronic pain and non stop bleeding for a year (which made me anemic). Therefore I need something more... short term!

So I was wondering if anyone has been prescribed it before? Was it easy to get it prescribed? Any nasty side effects?

Thanks and sorry again! haha.

I'm due to start on my wedding day too - only 13 days to go! I went to the doc & asked him about tablets to delay it starting & he gave me a prescription for Norethisterone. I have to start taking it 3 days before I'm due on & it's 3 tablets a day (I've already briefed my BMs to remind me to take them on the day!). He said there might be cramping once I stop taking them but I'm willing to deal with it after the day!

I bought it online. It worked perfectly and no adverse effects. Good luck!

Sometimes being a girly is s**t! I remember on my first holiday with OH I was due on (disaster!) I went to the docs and they gave me some tablets to take twice a day to keep my period away then after you stop it just goes normal. Might be worth popping up and asking them about getting it x

I used it when I went away scuba diving as a teenager and it worked and had no side effects Smiley laugh

Unfortunately it's too late for me Smiley sad I got changed from the combined oral pill when I chose when I had a period to the progesterone only one which caused me to have 3 periods in 6 weeks, then none for the last 3 months. I was hoping I was one of the lucky ones who takes it and never gets periods, but no my worst fear, just in time for the wedding.... started on Saturday (I cried I was so upset about it, OH hugged me and told me not to worry), wedding is on this Saturday, mine last 7-9 days...... Smiley sad Lets hope it's 7 days only because then it'll be done just in time! So annoyed Smiley sad but nothing I could do about it because I couldn't predict when or if I'd have one! On the plus side, I have zero pain Smiley laugh even on the combined pill I'd have 1 or 2 days of having to pop ibuprofen all day to cope!

I forgot to get my last injection and thought sod it it messed up my body and it always takes my body a long time 6+ months to get back into full swing. To my surprise I had a period 2 weeks aftery injection ran out. Then I woke up the other day in such a grump and had to nap, very unlike me when I awoke I had the worst cramping only right side so looked up all my symtoms and it went towards ovulation so put in the date soy last period into an ovulation cheeker and I was bang on date for ovulation. So them I put the dates in a period cheeker and my period is due the 27th, wedding is the 30th. I realised oh and myself done the bedroom Dance the night beforehand ovulation locked off so either going to find out pregnant on the 27th or come on! If I do come on it's going to be a tampon and towel jobby!

I find when I first go onto a new dose of contraception I can bleed anywhere from 4-18 weeks anyway so just be warned your body may take a whole to adjust!

Ladies, all of you, just give your gp a ring. Norethisterone can delay a period, if started 3days before, but it can also be used to stop a period. Dont suffer for the sake of a phone call to the gp. Most would be happy to prescibe over the phone. It is not a contraceptive dose, you can use it in addition to your mini pill. The combined pill is not a good option-if you were already on it then you could 'back to back' but if youre not on it, will take a few months for your body to settle. Honestly, just have a quick chat with yr gp. In terms of side effects, it is very well tolerated. On stopping period might be a little heavier, but generally ok x

I got an appointment with my GP and she prescribed some just like that. Wasn't expecting it to be so easy!

Thankyou for this post, it hadn't even entered my mind! I suffer from endometriosis so my periods can be pretty horrendous Smiley sad I guess a contingency is needed with period pants and the like, ohhh how awkward is being a woman?!
