For those of you who have already got there what did you do for your 30th? Mines coming up early next year and oh keeps pestering me about what I want to do but I've got no idea!

Went to a nightclub with some friends. Got reasonably drunk but not wasted. That was almost 10yrs ago though, birthdays seem to have become a much bigger deal than they used to be (much like stag and hen dos).

Nothing major. Went out for dinner quite a few times with different groups of people. I like food, wine and good conversation so was perfect for me!

We'd planned to go abroad for a last minute week, but couldn't find anything suitable so went up to Edinburgh for a few days then drove back via a couple of towns in the North and stayed with friends. I was about 6 months pregnant so couldn't do anything major. We just went out for a nice meal on the night of my birthday.

Not a lot as it was a pretty nasty time for me but I can tell you about my 40th if you like!!

Went out for a meal with the family and got engaged - that was a much, much better birthday!

Mine is near the end of next year and my friend's is early that year so we're going to try and arrange a girls weekend away between the 2.

Mine must be about the same time as yours. I am thinking of having a party, but I am not sure whether to go ahead with that or not due to expense (we would have to hire out the local village hall and provide food etc) and the fact that a lot of my friends are scattered around the country and have young kids so it might be a bit of a big ask to get them to come. I always wanted to go to Florence for my birthday, but I have promised that my mum can come and she works in a school so I won't be able to actually be there on my birthday either. All in all, I am not sure yet what I will be doing, but I feel like I should make the most of it as people I know who have done things for their 30th have all said it was a good thing to do.

Mine was last year. We went out for a nice dinner and had some drinks in town afterwards. Nothing spectacular to be honest. We were in full wedding saving mode though.

I had a nice lunch with family and friends, then I went to see the Manics at Cambridge Corn Exchange - they were awesome.

Rod, yours sounds amazing!! Just like the OP mine is early next year, I have no idea what to do. I love the theatre, so maybe a weekend in London and a show.

I just wanted a nice meal out with a few friends. We'd booked a nice restaurant and I thought it was just the 5 of us until I walked in and there were about 20 of my family there! My parents live abroad so it was a huge surprise and needless to say I burst into tears immediately!

Mine was nearly 10 year ago but I combined it with New Year and had a big fancy dress party at my house. It was muchos fun as everyone made a real effort with their costumes but it took me about 4 days to clear up aftewards!

I split with my ex when I was 29 so found myself living with my parents for my 30th birthday so I had a party at their house. I also went to Blackpool Pleasure Beach with 5 mates followed by a brilliantly tacky night out in Blackpool too.

*prepares to annoy* we went to Maldives. In my defence, we had airmiles leftover from our wedding the year before

Wow some of these birthdays sounds amazing! We'll have the wedding to pay for next year so might go for spa day / weekend and a meal out with friends. If we could stretch to it I'd love to go to Rome for a few nights.

Ex took me to London for a surprise, went to see a show and went for a meal at Gordon Ramsays at Claridges. My 30th actually ended up lasting about a month as one weekend was that, another was spent partying with friends, another was a family do ... it was amazing, i felt like a princess!

My OH's was last year, we were in Cuba for it, spent her birthday night at Club Tropicana and I organised a sky dive for her - she also had a surprise party before we left for Cuba.

I had a do with friends in a pub on my actual birthday. Mr Erin took me out for a posh dinner as well.

Mine was in June this year. I had three celebrations, mostly because we had to go to a wedding on my birthday.

    1) Went to the wedding (in Bristol), but we were only invited to ceremony + evening, so H took me out for afternoon tea in between. The next day we stopped off in Bath on our way back to London, and went to the spa, then stopped off again in Bray for dinner at the Waterside inn (3 Michelin stars, AMAZING).

    2) Had a picnic in the park jointly with a colleague whose birthday was in the same week. Had loads of our friends and some of her family, lovely chilled afternoon.

    3) Went to Paris for 4 days a few weeks later, more Michelin-starred goodness, plus a bit of history and culture.

H turns 30 in October, I'm struggling to equal this!

We moved house on my 30th so we celebrated with fish and chips and mugs of champagne. We''re going away in September to mark it as well though.
