The dinner thread

RubyBlue, 5 January, 2009 at 17:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 32

Have successfully started my new start for the year after the extreme over-eating and general gluttony of the past few weeks.

We're having roast chicken and a mahoosive tray of roasted veg: parsnips, courgettes, carrots, red onion, butternut squash, red peppers and few cloves of garlic thrown in for good measure. Potatoes for those who want them. With any luck there will be some leftovers for my lunch tomorrow.

What's everyone else having? ?

I'm going for a 10 mile run after work (?) so will only get home at about 8, then have to bath and do the washing up, and I want to watch masterchef ? so it'll be five-a-day pasta bake for us I think.

Well I've got left over roast chicken, plus some home made stock, so I was going to do a chicken risotto. But I've just realised I have no cream or parmesan, and nothing else much interesting to add to it.

So now I need another idea to do with left over chicken - any ideas? (p.s. am gluten-free, so nothing bread/pastry related, although I do have g.f pasta)

    ta!

I'm about to cook a cottage pie with nice fresh mince chunky carrots and lashings of Worcester sauce. I'll top it off with buttery mash because I did 15 minutes Aerobic on my Wii fit earlier. That sounds a bit crap next to Sophie M's run but small steps and all that ?

Jacket potato with beans and cheese. It was meant to be niece-friendly but now she's staying elsewhere, again [quietly seething]

We're having sketty bollocknaise and home made garlic bread, it was going to be cottage pie until I realised I had no potatoes.

Sophie, running is no good for you, cars are the way forward.

In contrast to HH, I was thinking of doing spag bol as I need to do something with mince. However, I have remembered there are some new potatoes in the fridge, so I guess I could use them for a cottage pie.

And thanks for the reminder about masterchef Sophie ?

You are so right! That was horrendous - I gave up and only did 6km. I think I've got a bit of a temperature, and I felt grimity grim - couldn't get warm and felt like my knees were tied together ? On the plus side, I made it back for MC.

I had The Best Sirloin Steak In The World with ketchup and mustard (yes, I'm a heathen but I don't care!) peas and chips.

I was supposed to be having spaghetti & meatballs but the butcher didn't have any pork sausage meat or any mince and the sirloin looked soooo good...
