The first date.

LalaC1988, 1 June, 2014 at 13:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 38

Just wondering what everybody did for their first date with their now husband/fiance/significant other?

Me and OH had been talking for a couple of weeks and we had intended to meet a weekend earlier, the day my other half got back from the olympics. However his friend had completely messed the trains up and when fiance thought it was 9am trains it was actually 9pm so that didnt happen. He spent the entire day texting me and sending me photos of what he was upto - i think this was partly to make sure i didnt think he was having me on but he said it was because he was thinking of me so much.

So we finally met the weekend after, was meant to go for sunday dinner on the sunday, but the saturday my friends had let me down so i texted him and we went for dinner instead - it felt so special that night. The next day, i was going shopping for a pressie for my unborn at that point nephew, he invited himself along Smiley smile pretty much since then, weve either been working or together. Smiley smile

Erm, we have two "first dates" depending on where you consider the start of our relationship to be...

Ours was a Friday night, I was in a mad rush after work to get ready and realised I'd left my purse at work and didn't have time to go back - the only person I could get hold of who was around to lend me money was my ex!! So I turned up, bought the first round and told her that drinks were on my ex! She saw the funny side!

I loved our first date, we were all glammed up in frocks and heels and ent for stupidly expensive cocktails (ended up sitting at the bar next to Roberto Mancini!) got slowly sozzled and then joked about going to one of the most awful lezzer bars in Manchester where the usual dress code is trackies, and then looked at one another and said "shall we!?" and then spent the rest of the night dancing to awful music and drinking pints out of plastic pint pots and snogging like teenagers on the dancefloor!

    Tell us more?!

Our first date was at a bar between where we lived on a Saturday night. I wasn't sure at that stage whether it was a date or a friendly catch up (I didn't want to get my hopes up). Turns out it was a date.

Our first date was a in the middle of December at my house in Brighton (he was living in Leicester at the time). I walked to the bus stop to 'collect' him and it started snowing. When we got back to my house we just stood in the living room looking at each other and smiling, I was so shy I don't think I made eye contact. He suggested I gave him a tour of the house which looking back was obviously not what he meant, needless to say the tour ended abruptly when we reached the bedroom ?

We then got takeaway from across the road and rented a DVD from blockbuster. He was meant to leave the next morning but when we woke up there was so much snow that the buses weren't running and he had to stay another night.

It was never meant to be a proper date as I was only recently single and we lived hundreds of miles apart. Its worked out okay though!

    Our first date....

We met up in Southsea for a coffee. It was a pof thing, so public place and all that, but he walked up to me and pulled me into this huge cuddle and just held me. He then held my hand for the rest of the day!

We went to Southsea Common and sat in the sun chatting for hours. Our date ended when we both realised how sun burnt we were and had to head to a shop for aftersun lotion!

It's all a bit complicated because I was with someone else when I met H. Officially our first date was after I had split up with my ex and went to Oxford to visit now-H for the weekend. We went for lunch at a restaurant on the Woodstock Road, then wandered around Oxford for the afternoon and went for cocktails and ice cream in the evening with some of his friends.

However, he had come up to Cambridge a few weeks previously, ostensibly to visit his brother, but took me out for lunch and then we went to see a play later on, but it was a period of my life I feel very awkward and ashamed about, so I don't like to talk about that one too much.

We spent our weekends and nights at our second work where we met so we had our dinner there loads (sausage and chips or a toastie - classy!) and our first proper restaurant date was months into our relationship. I liked that though as we would have dinner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and usually breakfast on a Sunday so we were very used to each other in a normal situation so there was no awkward moments!

Hmm first date... We met online and spoke for 4 weeks... H2B then drove the 200 miles to meet me after I had finished a 12 hour shift in a nursing home (I was smelling less than pleasant)... I borrowed his hotel room shower whilst he waited in the hotel lounge and we then went for a very late dinner and walk along the beach. He dropped me home after and then came and picked me up the next morning we went for a walk up on Exmoor, had a picnic and then went bowling that evening and back to the hotel... I could hardly take him back to mine as I lived with my mum and she asks too many questions plus I had only split with my ex of 4 years 8 weeks previous.

22 months later I've moved to Sussex, we've brought a house, have a 6 week old baby and are getting married in 5 weeks 5 days.

Oh don't worry about it - I wouldn't have mentioned it if I really couldn't talk about it. H and I still can't agree on which one was our first date, but as it all worked out ok in the end it's something I try not to bother myself about too much!

We went to an Italian restaurant near where we were living at the time. He drove there and back -we were flat mates at the time so we were living in the same place! I found out a few years ago that the restaurant has closed which is a shame.

We went out for drinks on first date, cinema on 2nd.

I remember he asked me out for something to eat for the 1st and I wasn't having any of it as I hate eating in front of people and wouldn't have touched much food ?

Ours was the cinema on a Friday night after spending the wed night snogging at a school party! Not very exciting but options are limited when you are 16!

I was going to say this, then I realised that I wouldn't consider boinking him as a date. So it wouldve been the walk to the seafront and chips on the pier.

The unofficial 1st date.... we went to the pub together for a few drinks. We were constantly on our guard tho as I was technically with someone else. (Though he had cheated on me and we lived far apart, I intended to end it with him but wanted to do it in person the next time I saw him rather than the way he told me he had cheated on the phone). So that night we just had drinks and a peck on the cheek.

The official 1st date... We went for lunch and then to the cinema to watch superman. Little did I know that he was a bit of a nerd and we would continue to watch all the superhero films!

Boring one here - just a drink in a pub!

ETA: I do remember at the end though, when we were just about to leave, he was like "let's do this again" and I said "yes...when?" haha. I must have sounded either really confident or really desperate.

We already knew eachother cos of work but the first time we saw each other on our own in a date sort of situation was just a few drinks in a local pub near my house. We kissed in the car park after and it was raining a bit. It felt super romantic at the time! haha

He took me on a REAL date (his words) a couple of months later for Valentines day. Night in a swanky hotel, Jamie Oliver's fifteen, cocktails and a night of passion. Perfect!

Great idea - I've loved reading these!!

Our first date was a double date with his friend and my friend who'd also hooked up on the holiday where we met. It was a good night, drinking and dancing and relaxed because there were four of us! We all then went back to mine but I refused to do anything naughty as it was our first date (even though we'd already done that on holiday!). The other 'couple' were sleeping on my sofabed which was in the hallway (Glasgow flats are always wierd lay outs!) and in the morning an invitation to the royal garden party in all it's gold embossed posh glory dropped through my letterbox onto their feet! So we were woken up by my friend and her bloke ending themselves laughing doing their 'posh' voices!

The next date when we were just the two of us I fell of the pavement and landed in a heap on the road! Otters know what I'm like with falling over, so at least I got that out of the way early on!

    We never really had one.

First time we got together was along the lines of MY, after a party at my place.

Then there was a fair few instances of "Fancy a drink/game of pool after work?" which was couched as innocent friendship stuff but was anything but.

Then there was a decision about whether we were actually going to "go for this" (thankfully, we both agreed in the affirmative).

    And the rest is history.

We work at the same company in the same building (we didn't actually meet / know of each other until about 4 days before) so we went out for a walk at lunchtime prior to our "proper" date later that day, which was drinks and then some food. Then we had a bit of a kiss in the car park and have had lunch together pretty much every work day since.

Mine is a bit like Helenia's, there are two possible versions...

The official version is a Monday lunchtime on a beautifully hot day, H2B drove us about an hour to a country pub near Stratford where we had a couple of drinks, then spent the rest of the afternoon driving around the countryside. He dropped me off in town late afternoon, I did a bit of shopping then went home to have a bite to eat, before he picked me up again in the evening and we drove into more countryside, up a hill with a beautiful view and did a bit of fooling around in the car. There was no-one else around, it wasn't dogging or anything!

The other version is that the Friday beforehand, while my then boyfriend was away on a business trip, I arranged to meet up with H2B for the first time since I'd met him in March. Didn't want to be seen having flirty coffee with someone else by anyone I knew, so we drove out of town, ended up not really finding anywhere at all but having a good time talking about anything and everything. I already knew that I was going to be breaking up with my boyfriend when he got back from his business trip, but when H2B dropped me off and we had our first kiss, it sealed the deal. Boyfriend got home from his trip that evening, I broke up with him the next day and moved out shortly afterwards.

We treat the Monday as our proper first date, it's just nicer than acknowledging that I was being a bit naughty when we got together, even though H2B was well aware of what was happening.

We knew each other anyway but we ended up in the same pub one night and he ended up walking me home (with a bit of kissing on the way!).

Next day we went to the cinema and for a drink and that was it really!

Ours was the first full day after I moved back down to Sydney from Cairns (we'd met a few months before that, and been texting and calling regularly whilst apart!) think it was a Friday night, and I remember getting ready and panicking that I couldn't remember what he looked like! We went to Fox Studios in Sydney which has a heap of restaurants and bars, and then went onto a movie (the Ugly Truth ha ha!). I remember him buying me a 'proper' bottle of wine for the first time in months (I'd been drinking the traveller staple Goon since I arrived in Aus!) and then I impressed him by chowing down on lamb shanks, whilst he picked at chicken pasta, as he didn't want to scare me off with the amount of food he can eat! I think he fell in love with me then and there after watching me eat ;-)

We went for tea together then a couple of drinks afterwards, I then decided to call it a night as I didn't want to seem too keen haha! I loved our date, I then went home to tell my mum I was going to marry him. I don't know why I knew that, I guess it's a feeling I got x
