I think I would end up putting my house up for sale if that happened to me. As much as I like them (most of the time) I do NOT need that ?

I feel your pain. mine are coming to stay with us for a few days on thursday and it's so intense. Have to put up with their odd french ways and habits, but at least only a couple of times a year.

    He He! Like this idea!

To be fair we can only see the roof from the smallest bedroom but because the garden is at the side of the property it means we'll be able to see right into their garden (we are on slightly higher ground) which might become a problem if either of them goes do-lally and takes up naturism!

We only bought this place just over a year ago & we've done loads to it (it was a new build) and it is our forever home so would take a lot of explaining why we were moving!

I REALLY wish I could post emoticons.

I would pick the 'rolling around laughing' smiley.

Sorry. Did they do it on purpose? Or are there only so many bungalows in the area?

We used to live 'down the road' from ours (a few minutes' walk away) and it was great! But then again they NEVER popped over unexpectedly. Now that it takes us over an hour on public transport it is very annoying, especially as our post is crap so we're still having our parcels sent to theirs!

Gah!! I couldn't have anyone living that close, my own lot included. Blackout curtains and park your car round the corner and they won't know your in!!

Oh no! What are they like?

My inlaws are ace. My MIL is teaching me how to make a patchwork quilt this weekend. She doesn't know that yet. Then they're going to take me for a nice long walk in the countryside and let me shoot stuff, tin cans, clays, maybe a pheasant or two. They don't know that yet either.

I think I would have a breakdown if OH mum moved near us, weve only just moved away from her, and she has suggested she would like to 'downsize' and what are the houses like near us?!!

    You have my sympathy!!!! x

I used to live a 5 minute walk from my MIL and she had a habit of "just popping round". Drove me barmy... My in-laws are lovely people, but MIL and I have had numerous clashes so our relationship can be a little fraught, and that close proximity didn't do it any favours.

Then we moved to the opposite side of town and they've only "popped over" with very short notice twice. THAT I can cope with.

For the sake of balance, I'd feel the same if it was my own mum, and we get along brilliantly.

If it was my Mum, we'd already have the house on the market regardless of the amount of work we've done to it! She's about 20 miles away, I'd prefer it if there another 0 on that!

Arquard - I read you response on my phone, saw the user name & panicked that the Amys (if there was more than one) had a friend - was quite relieved to log on to see a familiar signature. Cool username BTW!

They currently live about a mile away as the crow flies in a village but there is the A14 between us. There are other bungalows in the area but most on the market need a lot or work so they dismissed them which is shortsighted because they are paying £50k more for the bungalow than they'll get for their house and they'll rip out the kitchen, decorate throughout and completely redo the garden anyway!

The only issue I have is with FIL, I am incredibly grateful for what he's done to help us in the house (& in my flat before that) but just wish sometimes he would leave us to it. For example a few nights ago we had an issue with the shower not draining properly, we had similar problems when we first moved it but that was due to the builders dumping a load of screed down the drain which set ? OH rang him for advice and he said he'd pop in the next day at some point. We then investigate a bit further and decide it's combination of hair down the plug hole (I loose so much everyday I should be bald) & cat poo down the loo and clear the problem. OH texts FIL but he still lets himself in the next day to check himself & very nearly lets the kittens out the front door! He just takes over even though OH is capable of doing things.

All I can do is keep my fingers crossed the chain falls apart below them!
