The mini pill Vs injection (or pill)

sherry, 29 December, 2008 at 19:34 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

I only want something short term, the pill doesn't agree with me so was wondering about the injection or mini pill.

Any experiences anyone is willing to share would be good - ?

I really do not want the coil and would prefer something that made periods lighter not heavier if possible.

I take Cerazette, a new mini pill, which gets rid of periods, as long as I don't get too fat ? It has literally changed my life! I love it.

If you only want short term I would avoid the injection at all costs! I had it and it took a year and a half for my periods to come back and its still all over the place, so avoid!

Can I ask why you don't want the coil?

Sunny Day - I can't give you a reasonable answer other than i'm fed up of things being prodded up there. I have 6 monthly smears and regular coloscopys due to abnormal smears and the thought of a coil makes me cringe - I know it's not a good enough reason. My OH has the snip in January aswell. I've heard that inserting the coil and taking it out can hurt.

Another here that would avoid the injection - great for some but if it doesn't agree with you, you're stuck with the side effects for minimum 3 months - and I ended up with a 5 week long period on the depo (I switched to it to hopefully get rid of periods, ah irony ?)

I think I've had 5 maybe 6, and when I say bleeds I mean very watery or brown sludge for a maximum of 2 days.

My experience of the injection was horrific.

I had my last injection nearly 12 months ago and my period has still not shown up. I put on over 2 stone in a year, I also suffered with bouts of depression, anxiety, sore breasts, oily skin and spots over my back, shoulders and chest which have still not cleared up. Smiley sad

WSS, except I'm also suffering hair loss from it. It is apparently extremely rare but my eyebrows and eyelashes fell out not too long after my first injection. Only now 8 months after my second and last one are they starting to grow back. I dread to think of when my periods will return.

I had the coil when I needed a colposcopy - it had to be taken out for the treatment anyway. So if you thought there was any chance that you would need further treatment it probably isn't worth having one anyway. For what it is worth, I've had 3 coils fitted and although it was a bit painful, it was managable - like a bad period - but everyone is different. I've had no pain when it is taken out.
