The Pill - Yasmin

rosy, 23 June, 2008 at 23:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Hi all ?

Firstly, hello to everyone i kinda know from here..........have been around the last few days and have recognised a few names, i hope you are well and hopefully married by now!

I was on Dianette, the pill, for about the last 2 years, primarily because i had rashy (although not spotty) skin, and despite what allergy tablets i took i still came up in blotches, and my periods were very irratic. Anyway, I came off it in February for lots of reasons, primarily because I thought it would be a good idea to give my bosy a break. Anyway, when I went back to the Dr about resuming last week she said I shouldnt have been on Dianette anyway as I didnt have acne and said it is a common myth that women think they should give their body a break whilst on the pill. She put me on a new type of pill called Yasmin which she said has not been out very long.

I just wondered if anyone had any first hand xperience of this type of pill. I have obviously read the leaflet and looked it up on the net but I wanted to know if anyone was actually on it and what they think the pros and cons of taking it (possibly vs Dianette)

Any information would be helpful!

Thanks Ladies!

xx

I took Yasmin after coming off Dianette too, I don't remember any negative side effects apart from a few headaches which I got with Dianette too.

I think Yasmin is supposed to be good for skin conditions too which is why your doctor has probably recommended it.

I'm not sure why your doctor is saying it hasn't been out for very long, I've been on it for at least four years now! Maybe it's just 'new' in your Primary Healthcare Trust or something. Anyway I can't advise on Dianette as I have never taken it, although it was my understanding that at my old FPC it was used both as birth control and as an antic-acne treatment.

I've never heard of Yasmin being linked to acne treatment but all of the manufacturer's information is here: https://www.bayer.de

I've never had any problems at all with it, best of luck.

I was on Yasmin for a few years (2002 - 2005) and I had no problems with it all.

I was on yasmin for about 6 -8 months. I was good at the beginning, periods were lighter and hardly any pain. After about 6 months I started getting severe migranes that I never had before. They stopped when I finished Yasmin.

I can't remember how long I was on it for but came off it due to terrible migraines.

I too went from Dianette to Yasmin in january this year (you shouldn't be on dianette for more than 3 years) No side affects, my periods are slightly lighter. They did say that you might loose some weight on yasmin, but that hasn't happened I'm just pleased my skin is still clear

Yasmin has been round for a good few years, as I've been on it since 2003. I'd say its a good one, I don't get migraines on it like I did with others.

I have been on Yasmin for a couple of years now and it's by far the best pill I have tried. Minimal side effects and my skin cleared up after a couple of months.

Oh excellent ladies, thank you so much. It is odd that she said it was a new pill, perhaps she meant compared to other older more established who knows. She did ask if I had ever suffered from migraines which I havent (touch wood) so will see how i get on with it. Will be fab if it makes you lose weight also! Great stuff and thanks again

    xx
