The price of Flowers... help please

nicola2010, 3 January, 2009 at 13:47 Posted on Planning 0 9

I've just had my 1st quote from the florist who is based at my venue and my quote came to just over £950.00... this includes:

Brides bouquet
1 adult bridesmaid bouquet
2 children bridesmaid bouquet
4 buttonholes
2 corsages
top table arrangement
10 guest table arrangements
2 marquee poles
2 thank you bouquets

We only really wanted to spend £500 maximum, this quote isnt even based on the types of flowers to be used yet so maybe this will come down a little when we get to specifics but ideally i wanted roses and peonies with a touch of blue flower.

As this is my 1st quote i dont know if this is average or not, what do you girls think? Too much? Or reasonable for what it includes?

Seems a lot to me too! Can you maybe cut down somewhere? What time of year arer you getting married? Maybe you could look at what flowers are in season then.

I had lisianthus in my bouquet - they look similar to roses, last longer and are a bit cheaper - maybe that would be an option??

I think it sounds like a right bargain for what you are getting to be honest. I think you're being a bit over-optimistic to hope to get all of that for under £500.

To give you an idea, my flowers are going to be £300ish and thats for my handtied bouquet, 3 x adult handtied bouquets and around 10 buttonholes/corsages. I'm not having anything particularly fancy, just a few roses bulked out with garden-y type flowers.

We're not having table flowers as I just couldn't justify the cost - we were quoted around £30-£50 per table and we're having 10 tables. That's probably where the bulk of your cost is coming from.

I'd suggest getting quotes from a couple more places for comparison.

    Thank you ladies.

We are getting married in May so roses and peonies are in season at that time.

We are having 10 guest tables and the arrangements have been costed at £50.00 each so that's our £500 spent before weve even looked at any other area so i guess you are right in that respect.

Im getting a little overwhelmed with the cost of everything to be honest... my common sense screams it's just one day are you insane? but then my heart says stuff it, you'll only do it once and you want it to be nice but i am uneasy about the cost.

I will get a few more quotes and see if we can reduce it any further.

Tbh £950 sounds about right for what you want - like FML says, i think you are being very optimistic for wanting all the above for £500!!! (especially since you are wanting 10 table arrangements) plus peonies are really expensive (even in season) so your quote is more likely to move up than down.

i would definitely seek out some more quotes though if you're not happy with the above, but i wouldn't expect them to move much lower. you could always move away from fresh flower centrepieces, or ask your florist to use more greenery than flowers - this will make things cheaper.

    good luck!

Sounds about right for what you are wanting... the peonies are probably bumping the price up considerably as they are extremely expensive.

You could try David Austin roses and have a different second flower? David Austin are very similar to peonies and may be slightly cheaper than peonies.

Have a peep at their website and see what you think... they do some gorgeous shades of roses.

Seems a lot to me. I'm having a bit more than you and paying a bit less. I got

brides bouquet, 2 adult bridesmaids posies, 2 junior BM posies, 1 FG posie, 8 button holes, 12 table centres, 1 top table, 2 bay trees for outside the church, 3 corsages and 2 pedastels. All that comes to around £750, I'm having dolce vita roses which are quite expensive.

Sorry to join everyone else but that does seem about right to me.

It's your centre pieces that are doing it. You could ask florists to look at reducing the cost of these to around £30. Also how big are they? There are ways of making your centrepieces have an impact without them having tons of flowers.

One way that I've reduced costs is to have the flowers I want in my bouquet - and then different (Cheaper..) ones in my Bms.

Also my first florist quote was £££ so do shop around. Or, you could go for silk flowers - I know there are several HIBs on here that do some lovely things - and then you can keep them permanently...
