I have just seen a trailer for this and it looks pretty good. For some reason I have never thought I would like it. Anyone seen it? Is it any good? What would you compare it to for films you would say are on an equal footing?

Have to say that this is one of my favourite films ever - not a mind free entertaining watch but enjoyable and thought provoking. I will be getting it for friends at Christmas

Overly worthy and a bit dull to be honest. And I'm a big fan of Kate Winslet with no clothes on ?

My main problem is that it's a bit try hard i.e. everyone's heading into the realms of over egging the angst just to win an Oscar. I understand the book is far better.

In the same vein as The Pianist, I would say.

At the start I was beginning to think that it was a bit too much like a porno but it kind of made sense by the end. Having said that a few more scenes with their clothes on wouldn't have hurt, felt I knew her ❤️❤️ better than my own by half way through ?

I loved it but agree the book is even better. It's beautifully written. I'm not sure what it compares to - perhaps Valkyrie? .....On second thoughts, no, that's not a good comparison!

It's very much an unconventional and tragic love story.

Hmm, I thought the film was better than the book in this instance (but I think the book probabl loses some effect through poor translation).

It's quite thought provoking, slightly worthy as BGB says, but still good to watch. I thought the boy actor was fantastic.

Tragic I am not in the place for at the minute. Perhaps I will wait a while. I didn't like The Pianist much so maybe BGB's tastes are more similar to mine?

Thanks for all your feedback though, much appreciated

Not seen the film but have read the book and whilst it was ok, I wasn't blown away by it. Would like to see the film though even though I know what happens.

I thought it was a beautiful film, although I don't think Kate Winslet needed to get her baps out half as much as she did!

I thought the ending was so sad. Not read the book, but I imagine it's much better than the film - as all good books are!
