theme / colours for wedding

TheMrsMeFo, 5 June, 2013 at 15:36 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi ladies,

Ok, so my wedding isnt until April 2015, however thats not stopping me planning and trying to decide on a theme / colour scheme. I was just wondering, will my colours need to match the venue? We are getting married in a hotel that have a ceremony room in neutral colours and tones, but then the meal and evening reception are being held in a room that has deep red / burgundy and cream/gold colours.

I have a few ideas in my head - first idea is a vintage themed wedding with pastel and cream colours, second idea is an art deco theme in peacock colours with peacock feathers etc instead of flowers, third idea since its the weekend after Easter we get married is a chocolate theme - milk chocolate browns and golds and cream colours. However I am a total 'burst of colour' girl, I don't like magnolia, browns, beiges etc so the chocolate them wouldn't really be 'me' even though H2B is a total chocoholic so he loves this idea!!

I am wondering if I can tie all 3 together in some way or maybe just the vintage / peacock together. But if it needs to match the venue then its reds and golds which I don't want. Also H2B will be wearing a kilt, so again will that have to match in with the colour theme?

Sorry for all the questions!!! I just dont want a random mis matched wedding!!

Thanks for any ideas, help, tips Smiley smile

Mel x

I'm April 2015 too.. Friday 24th Smiley smile Smiley smile

I'm getting married in a church (Cant book it until April 2014) and a hotel afterwards. I was worried about my colour scheme clashing with the venue as its a horrible greeny carpet but neutral walls. My thought....go with what ever colour scheme you want. I have dusky pink which isnt going to match well with the carpet but its what i want. And my thinking is...people wont remember if it matches or not (well thats what everyone I asked when I was worried said)

Good luck with the planning Smiley smile

    What venue is it?

Do you have some pictures of the rooms?

We've got a similar situation with regard to the venue. The rooms for the day portions of the wedding are all wood panels, green curtains, lots of dark colours, really. Then the evening reception is in their restaurant, which has cream colours walls and very little by way of colour. We have managed to bridge the two by doing a mix of light and dark reds/pinks and greens, and florals as well, so it goes equally well in both locations.

I think if you want to do neutral and bold together it's definitely possible, but you've got to pick colours that will blend together nicely to tie it all in and not look disjointed. If you do peacock colours, you could add in muted tones of the same shades, couldn't you?

Maybe you could try designing a few different pieces for the seperate concepts and see if any one of them stands out more? If you have pics of the rooms you will be using, it might help you decide which colours etc will go better? Also, try and not worry about it too much! We have enough to stress out about and need to trya and take things one step at a time! you've plenty time to decide. Good Luck x

    Oops posted that too soon!!

Nice to see a fellow April 2015 bride.

Thinking if I do the art deco / peacock theme and colours I could use the gold coloured pattern on the carpet and curtains to tie in, that way its not totally disjointed. The ceremony room is all creams so thats easy enough to tie in.

The carpet does look really red in the photos!! Dont remember it being that bright when we viewed it. x

Thanks Harajuko80, you are right I do have plenty time! It dawned on me last night that I also have H2B's kilt to consider, as again that will need to be similar to the bridesmaid dresses so again the colours could change!! arghhhh haha xx

Thats a lovely looking room SJM!!

I'd certainly be too busy to notice the green carpet. You could always do a garden colour theme so that the carpet was the 'grass' if you know what I mean? x
