I would love to hear what everyone thinks about 'THEME' weddings or indeed if you have a theme and what it is, , , ,,??

My theme is a vintage tea party. The only thing I would say with having a theme is make sure it doesnt take over everything (as personally I think that is when it starts to look tacky) there are loads of related items I could have had and yet have chosen the plan version so that those items I have chosen really stand out. Good luck with all your planning, I remember when I was just starting out and choosing things - think it was my favourite part to be honest so enjoy.

I think themes are a great idea to co-ordinate everything.. we're having 'Daisies' as our theme and will be incorporating it into most things (Obv. flowers, place cards, invitations etc) but not over the top.

We had a 40s theme to our day; Glenn Miller, Spitfire, diamonds, pearls and feathers, and other little aspects...

We are having a Scottish and English theme as I'm Scottish and my fiance is English. It'll be lots of little things like the flowers will be roses and thistles, my male family members in kilts and our stationary incorporates roses and thistles

Obviously it's my job to help couples come up with a theme and I love to find something which can represent them both, but that isn't always easy to do. Sometimes it's based on the period of venue, sometimes their hobbies, favourite sports team, music, travel, wine and food or just a type of decor they like whether it's vintage, shabby chic, glamour and glitz or traditional.. There are lots of reasons to have a theme but the main two I would say are 1) It makes it a lot easier to make decisions on things. If things are narrowed down purely because they will or won't work with your ideas it can save a lot of time and indecision 2) You want your guests to walk away from your wedding going 'Yes, that was definately LoveSka and MrLoveSka's wedding' so chosing something that is personal or represents the two of you will help you to put your own stamp on the day.

I do recommend though you choose the ares you would like to theme or you could overkill. You don't have to have it in everything but I do suggest you run it from the beginning. Use it to choose your stationery so that your guests will have a good idea of the style of wedding it will be from opening an envelope. You can tell a lot from the invitation so getting this right is a great start. Choose a couple of key pieces to really go to town on, such as centrepieces and the cake and then add smaller elements into the rest of your stationery, favours, outfits, flowers and transport to pull it together.

I love theming, it's my favourite part of my job and when everything comes together to make the full picture, it's so worth the hard work and effort!

    Enjoy your planning

    Ruth

Our theme is Lego and our colour scheme is sage green and ivory. Bit unusual but fits us well as our house is full of the stuff! (Lego, not sage and ivory) We are not going nuts, but there will be Lego here and there throughout the day - I have made cufflinks for the men to match the colour scheme, I have made Lego bride and groom cake toppers, there will be some Lego on the tables for the guests to play with! We're not stringing it from the rafters though!

Our theme is Narnia meets Winter Woodland...All very natural, woodland-like, and with little nods to Narnia, but like tinks said, not too much, as we don't want it to turn into a fancy dress party set! There will be discreet things, such bowls looking as if they're made of ice filled with turkish delight and with a note in them with the White Witch's words "More Turkish Delight?". Icicle decoration and baubles in white with sparkle looking like snowballs, little woodland animals dotted along the aisle and, if we're lucky, the Narnia lamppost at the "altar"... Pine cones scattered on tables, mosses and ivy, lots of fir garlands and tons of fairy lights...

Colour theme - Hunter Green and Ivory with silver accents... Bridesmaids wearing ivory faux fur muffs decorated with sparkly silver snowflake instead of flowers.

My colours are black and white with a splash of orange. I think people may think our theme is a mish mash of era's but those that know us will know it's a reflection of our lifestyle more so than a theme.

I love 60s and 70s fashion so I am having a short 60s style dress with my 2 older bridesmaids in Mary Quant style dresses.

As our wedding is less than 2 weeks from Remembrance sunday we are making a donation to the British Legion and all our quests are having poppies instead of button holes

I guess ours is a beach theme, as we're getting married abroad, but I don't want it to take over and become like one of those Wedding House weddings!

The main colour is blue, and always would have been as it's both of our favourite colour, and I plan on putting little starfish on the stationery and in the centrepieces. I've also got my BMs Tiffany starfish necklaces which are very sweet.

The Theme I've had to work hardest on was an Arabian Themed Wedding, it included a stuffed Camel and the Bride and Groom wore Fez hats!!!

Hi, , we are based just outside Brimingham but are getting married in my OH's home town of Colchester.

Your not far wrong with the Ska stuff, we do love the Specials and My OH will be wearing a checker board shirt, , lol

We both love the old 60s Ska (JamaicianReggea), scooters and all that. So it will be a fusion of the 2.

You have to have what makes you Happy and anyone that cares about you will be happy for you, , , xx

My theme, if you can call it that, is butterflies, as my late sister promised me before she died this would be her sign from the other side to me. So I am sending a sign of my love for her back!

Not going ott on the butterfly thing, some spring flowers mixed up with it, main colours purple, cream and a touch of silver .
