Themes??

fadedinnocence, 30 March, 2010 at 15:33 Posted on Planning 0 8

My H2B and I really want to theme our wedding, but are a little stuck on what to choose. We want it to reflect us as a couple so have ideas along the lines of a theatre theme/shakespeare theme/couples from love stories but wondered how to tie everything in.

Anyone else having a theme and how are you pulling it off?

We have decided to have a loosely based black and white "movie" theme - we are getting married in an old art-deco cinema which is just amazing and have decided to go with the colour scheme of black, white and an accent of red. The place already has the glamour with lit-up steps and black and white movie prints everywhere so we are using that to our advantage.

Our tables will be named after our favourite romantic movies and I plan to decorate the tables by having 3 photoframes in a triangle, 1 with the movie poster and the other 2 with stills, all of which will have quotes from that movie around them, then a vase with flowers in the centre. Our table plan will be a huge film frame. We also have the use of a projector which we are creating a CD for to play on a loop, black and white photos of romantic movie couples, us AND our friends and family who are couples (which will be a surprise!). Also trying to find some small kindof film-tins to have sweets in on the tables.

The movie thing is just so "us" - we met in a drama class and are such buffs, our little girls are named after characters from Gone With The Wind and Much Ado About Nothing. That should just about do it methinks!

Hi Faded, do you have a venue yet? The colours they have might help you work out what you can use. What are your shared interests? I love the romantic movie ideas. Each table could be a Shakespeare play or character...

My friend had a midsummer nights dream as her theme and had each of the tables named after characters from the play? Is that an idea?

And in terms of table decorations they could be after the fairies! e.g. cobweb, mustard

(this latter point may be too far but hopfeully it might give you a starting point...)

Oh a theatre theme would be fab (I trained as an actor), yes you could have tables named after shakespeares plays or characters, you could have a masked theme, providing masks as favours for example (theres your comedy and tragedy link) You could incorporate quotes from love sonnets...

you could name tables after parts of a theatre or link to Greek theatre. Playwrights of the 20th Century.... scripts as aback drop to your table plan or favours...

Costume could play a bit part too, oh man.... this could be a great theme. Ticket stubs as invitations, black and white photos with biogs.....list is endless.

oh and our theme was the 40s. Smiley smile

Hi there we are having a james bond/casino theme.

Our reception is black tie, we are having an Aston Martin being driven by the man who was piers brosnans double, I am also having a 7ft gold 007 3d prop at the champagne welcome reception, we are having a swing singer who is gonna do a couple of bond numbers - mat monroe.

Our cake topper is a male and female spy, very funny and a bit cool!

We are also having a casino and all the tables are named after las vegas casinos, our centre pieces are giant martini glasses that will be filled with diamond (not real lol) and lit. Our favours are black organza bags filled with dice, replicas of the casino chips from Casino Royale and chocolate playing cards.

We also have a magician walking round and a dj. And the whole colour theme is black and white.

Aaahhh, you lot are loads of help Smiley laugh

The theatre/shakespeare theme came from the fact we met at a local drama group, and we both love shakespeare so thought it'd be the perfect theme.

We're getting married in a 17th century mansion.

Yeah, perfect then, that'd be amazing! perfect theme for the perfect venue for the perfect drama couple!

And you can take it as far or as little as you like. I want mine to be really glamorous and chic/sophisticated, but I am a bit worried people will think its naff!

It just reflects us so well so I think its the natural way to go.
