Themes?!

MrsPtoB, 4 February, 2017 at 16:27 Posted on Planning 0 14

How on earth do you decide on a theme?

I have chosen my dress and we are getting married at a castle (castle ruins but beautiful) and I am having a princess type dress.

It will be a small wedding and beyond this I have no idea what sort of theme to have! Usually I would just pick things I like the look of.

The groom will be in a grey kilt with black jacket. I don't know about bridesmaid dress yet, what sort of colours would work well (any suggestions welcome).

I feel a bit lost on it to be honest!

I chose a meadow flower theme because flowers are pretty and it meant I didn't have to choose a colour!

Then it's developed from there so our colours are navy and gold based on things I've bought already. But the wild flowers with all the colours is the centrepiece.

I have a friend who had no theme at all.

Well you could hit Pinterest an see what you like and what colours go well with grey and whatever else you like. Or you could just as said chose things you like and don't worry about a specific theme.

We don't have a theme as such, I'm just going with what I like which tends to be vintage-y/shabby chic so I guess that has kind of developed a bit. However, my OH picked the invites and they were much more formal and modern.

I think with a grey kilt you could have any colour you want. What time of year is your wedding? I think this is often a big influence on colour choices.

Our sort-of-theme is rustic industrial with a nautical twist and yes, that is partly because I have a hard time making decisions of any sort... ?, the inspiration for the rustic industrial came about because I searched Pinterest for copper wedding decor and all the pins termed it as "rustic industrial". The nautical twist has been added because our reception venue is an old ship builder's house right on the river and I liked the idea of using rope in the decor.

I'd say just have a look on Pinterest, pin lots of stuff you like and you might see a theme coming through in the pins you save, but there is no need to have a theme at all ? xx

We've sort of gone for a vintage english country garden theme as time has passed & we've organised & bought more things - mainly because of the venue, as it's a marquee in the grounds of a beautiful country home & so it sort of fitted. Very floral, bright pastels as it's summer, but it's quite a loose theme!

No theme for us- I just picked out colours I like and have incorporated them in as many aspects of the decor and clothing as I can- so unless 'purple, lilac and gold' counts as a theme, we don't have one!!

You don't have to have a theme Smiley smile

We're kind of geeky, so we're having a Comic Book theme. Our colours evolved naturally from that to be blue and grey/silver.

Check out pinterest for ideas on colour combinations Smiley smile

If you're getting married in a castle with a princess gown, I would suggest some really bold regal colours like deep red and gold Smiley smile

No specific theme for us. A LOT of people have been asking me what our theme is....and I just stare blankly at them lol! We've got colours specified for bridesmaids and flowers (mix of purples)....and we're having candles and flowers over any other kind of venue decoration. In my head I'm envisioning it will be quite elegant but understated, but I suspect thats mainly driven by the country house we're getting married in and how it is already decorated. The dress I've chosen is quite boho, and the invitations have a bit of a relaxed, boho vibe going on.

So basically lots of things going on! I'd echo what others say - deffo stalk Pinterest, pick up some bridal mags and just pick out things you like the look of, and go from there

Like others have said, no reason at all why you can't do this Smiley smile Plenty of weddings don't have themes and still look absolutely beautiful!

No theme for me either, I am just picking things I like. I think things will end up being different greens and white but really that's more by luck than judgement. I don't think a theme is essential.

    Also Pinterest is amazing!

These were our save the dates, invitations and publisher made order of service. As you can see there is nothing that links all 3! Our bridesmaids wore purple, our reception room was bright turquoise, flowers were purple and pink, white for bm's and then the centre pieces were board games.

We had a lovely day without having a theme of any kind, you said Groom will be a grey kilt, I am assuming so apologies, that the kilt will be a tartan patten which usually incorporates another colour so could use that for your bridesmaids. Or just pick a colour you like and won't look back in 10 years time and think "should have said something as I really don't like [insert colour] why did I pick it again?"

Don't worry some of these things fall into place naturally, and everything can change when you see a 60% off sign.
