There's a rock concert metres from my venue

brideseekingblush, 17 May, 2010 at 20:39 Posted on Planning 0 15

They've just announced an outdoor rock concert on the same day as my wedding

I've just emailed our venue coordinator about it - it's not the sort of place that you'd normally expect anything like that, and all I can think is that through the speeches and everything we'll just be able to hear this rock concert.

Sorry, I know that really I just need to wait to hear back from the wedding coordinator, I'm just so upset. I suppose at least it's not due to start till after the ceremony Smiley sad

Do you know exactly when it kicks off? How big is it going to be? Remember, support bands will start and they usually aren't as loud of showy as the main band. And the main band won't come on until really late. How rubbish for you - I wish there was something I could do to help.

Is there any way of merging your reception and concert (is it your kind of music)? That would make it a reception to remember!

    Mmm Ok

Thats a really good idea to merge in with your Reception, if you like that kind of music?

Get your co-ordinator to call the concert organisers to get rough ideas of times so you can maybe jig your day around it if its not too much hassle?

Sure it will be ok ?

Thanks ladies - I don't know, I might be going mad, it might not be as close as I think. It's due to start at 3pm - I think from looking at things there's only going to be one band, so I guess they'll be on from 3-5pm. We'd planned to have the speeches before the dinner, so I guess if the worst comes to the worst we'll just have to have them after the meal - which'll mean extending the amount of time the TOG is booked for, and I know that the boys wanted the speeches beforehand...I just can't think of anything worse than them speaking and being able to hear this flippin concert. Aargh, I'll just try and forget about it, and hopefully the wedding coordinater will get back to me.

Oh BSB. That's totally pants. ? But 700m is quite a long way and if the stage is facing a different direction from your venue the sound is unlikely to travel, so it might not be too bad. Can your venue mic up your folk for speeches? i've seen that done at a few weddings.

Yeah, I just don't know - I've just been trying to google how much sound travels but not having much success. Hopefully the stage is a different way...or something. I dunno. I used to live near Victoria Park and I don't remember the noise being too bad when they did stuff there, so maybe it'll be okay????

The funny thing is I've actually been out drinking with the band that are playing - perhaps I should remind them and get 'em to cancel!?

Can I ask a random question...!? Is your venue at Beaulieu?

Its just you said by the river etc and there is a hitcher called Halo Honey who got married in Beaulieu and Girls Aloud were playing next door and she ended up having pics taken with them!

That's not good ☹️, but what are you hoping the wedding coordinator can do or say? I'm assuming he/she can't cancel the concert and you can't change the wedding date at this stage and like others said, if the stage is pointing away from you, you won't hear it anyway, or if the windows are shut at the venue you won't hear much. Make sure you ask the venue to close any windows for the ceremony and speeches at least.

I think that would be great as long as it wasn't hard rock mosh pit style music!

All your guests could have a bop in the grounds next door = free disco!!

Morning girls. I thought I'd contact the coordinator in case she had any experience of events like this.

    She responded back

. "To be honest I doubt you would hear anything from inside the building, they have done some things in the past over in the college and I don’t remember it ever being so noisy that it disrupted an event….I would guess its going to be mega busy though"

So I guess we'll just see. She said she's going to ask the manager of the venue as well in case they know anything.

Last night I then asked OH what he thought and he had a massive go at me and then said I was just trying to find things to whine about and that maybe we just shouldn't get married at all. I feel like I can't say a thing about whatever's worrying me without him throwing that at me. I know other people have had much bigger stuff to deal with for their weddings, it's just come out of the blue and it feels like my days not going to be how I pictured it...I guess we'll just have to see though.

I think it would be cool to have something like that next to my venue. As for the hard rock mosh pit style music, I'd be quite up for that too!!!

Oooh that's not a nice reaction from H2B...

I really wouldn't worry about the concert, I would much rather a music noise than say building works or a motorway.

You could get the tog to take some "festival/concert" themed pictures?!

Shame about your H2B's reaction, chinup.

Have just had a look and it looks as though there will only the two bands and it starts at 3pm. I'm guessing the first band will be on for an hour then half an hour break and then athlete will be on.

I don't think you will hear too much though from inside. Try not to worry too much about it ?
