These google ads

Headless Lois, 3 February, 2009 at 11:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Couldn't they be a bit more appropriate, or at least be filtered to be inappropriate?

Last week on a thread where someone was agonising over their relationship, and the attention of someone else, the ad at the top was along the lines of 'Looking for an affair'?

Today at the bottom I've had 'married and want to flirt?' and links to other chat forums (I presume).

I think these are distinctly weird for a wedding website. Is anyone else noticing this?

I havent noticed the ones you mentioned but there are a lot of adverts for 'singles' which I find odd on a wedding planning forum. The 'woo me' adverts with the dancing people are very annoying!

Darren will have signed up to Google ads, presumably to boost his ad sales / SEO.

I think they say the opposite about a site, personally. Cheap and tacky. Also if I was a HIB who (I presume?) paid to be on the Hitched directory and the Google ads were then advertising my competitors for free, I would not be best pleased.

They apparently scan the site's content and come up with appropriate ads - goodness knows what they are finding to come up with so many dating ones! Darren could filter out the advertisers that he doesn't want, but obviously that's time consuming.

I realise why he's done it, but I agree - some of the ads cheapen the whole site, imo

That's awful, surely there must be a better way to filter them

I also think they make the site look cheap and not as professional as it once was, I also don't think I'd click on them cos I'd be worried that they would take me to some porn or spam virus site.

Yep, they have that look, and because some of them sound dodgy, that would make me avoid all of them
