Think I've found my wedding dress!! But advice, please!? *lots and lots of flashes*!

Fireflies, 13 October, 2012 at 23:41 Posted on Planning 0 19

(Ooops has ended up long, sorry, please stick with it, I promise there are pics at the end!!!)

Love this dress, but the dress I tried on was probably a size too small - the woman in the shop thought I should go up one size, and I did think it felt rather tight but obviously because it's a corset and I really wanted sucking in I was happy with that/expecting that. It was also a 'petite' range dress, so about 3 inches shorter than the standard length. Now I'm about 5'6', so not at all petite, so did leave thinking that I would have it in a size bigger and in the 'standard' size, but now I've seen pictures of the dress online and luckily even managed to find some of other 'real brides' wearing it - and I'm so glad I was allowed to take my own pics because I hate the other pictures I've seen of the dress!! Still love my pics tho!

In particular, I'm worried about the fact that the standard dress' bodice looks like it'll be an inch or two (or more) longer in the body - and in fact I'm pretty sure I remember the woman saying it was longer in the body in the standard, but I really like the corset being tight to the waist and not going onto my hips, basically the length of the body of the one I tried on, and am worried the standard will sit too far down on my hips and I won't like it. But obviously if I get the petite size I am worried it will be too short - does the one I am in look too short? I think it did lift a tiny bit off the ground as I walked but can't remember. I am barefoot in the pics though, and I will literally be wearing flip flops or maybe 1inch heels or less....also have a hoop on which perhaps could be changed for a tad smaller one to make the dress drop a bit closer to the ground..?

Also, I am planning on losing a bit of weight - maybe half a stone at most realistically, and thinking if the corset fits (tightly though) but looks nice in this size, but if I then buy one bigger size AND lose weight then maybe it will be too big? Can this be fixed without damaging the dress?

I am obviously going to phone around on Monday to try and find this dress in the standard size/one size bigger somewhere else to try on but if I don't, WWYD? Shall I buy it in the petite smaller size as shown/ petite one size bigger/ standard size as shown/ standard size one size bigger??

Ohhhh and as a side note, I will either have straps made with the material as shown, or with diamante matching straps to the belt (wish I took pics of that too, damn!) so opinions on which of those would go best would be appreciated too!

Now the pics!! First few are of me obv and then standard size on model and what I presume is standard on other brides...

Well, tbh I think you should just get it as it is. It does not look too short or too tight, and even if you don't lose weight, you will look fine. If you do lose it, as you say, the corset won't be quite as tight. I see it's a lace up back, which gives some leeway anyway. I don't like the dress on the model, and it looks awful on the blonde bride (sorry if you're reading LOL!!). It looks far, far better on you - some of that I think is down to the fact that you are wearing a hoop, but also you have a nice natural waist (the others are too straight up and down) and if you need the petite version to emphasise that, so be it.

That dress looks lovely on you and if you hadn't of said any of that I wouldn't have thought it was too tight or too short. I still don't but you know what I mean lol

I think it looks perfect on you but obviously I don't know how it feels, is it too tight to wear all day, sit down in etc. The body is too long on the other brides and that makes the belt too low by about 1 to 2 inches. Try it on again with the heel height you will be wearing but it doesn't look too short in the picture, just right actually to lift about an inch, so no alterations needed Smiley smile If yoou do need to go a size up go for this one.

I too think the bodice part looks fantastic on you. I love sweetheart necklines as they are so flattering. I'm not keen on all the flowing frilly things at the back, but thats just me. I dont think the bodice looks short at all. I didnt think the pics of the dress on other brides made the bodice look any longer either. The model brides certainly look thin & the dress isnt flattering on them at all.

I like the straps in the pic, but also think diamante ones matching the belt would go. With the diamante just on the belt though, that is currently a focus of the dress. With diamante straps also, I dont know if the breast area would be more of a focus? I find it hard to imagine. Another option is to have no straps.

Def try to find a 'standard' size to see if its that much longer in the bodice, otherwise I'd stick with the petite. As long a the length of the skirt isnt too short. I had a corset back & mine could accomodate 3 sizes if you gain/loose weight.

You really do look lovely in the dress, whether you loose weight or not.

Thank you so much for your opinions so far! I really appreciate it!

I definitely think the bodice will be longer on the standard one tho - if for example you look at the picture of the model where her hand is on the left of the picture you can seek her hips there, although she is wearing it too low down obviously...I think the ideal would be to get a standard size to try on, but if not, then perhaps I will go one size up but stay in petite length as the bodice is the right length in my opinion there and if I am in complete flat then the length should be correct....argh wish I'd thought of this and asked these questions at the shop now! Will probably have to wait until Monday now...

...any more opinions, even contrary to what others have said would be gratefully appreciated!!! Smiley smile x

When I opened the thread the first thing I saw was your pic and I thought 'wow!' If I hadn't then read the rest I wouldn't have known there was anything wrong with it. I honestly think it suits you much better than the other two pics you posted (hope they're not reading this!) as you have much more of a naturally defined waist.

Ahhh the dress looks gorgeous on you! Think the length is nice too. If it isn't too uncomfortably tight I'd go with that size. For peace of mind it may also be worth asking what the shop could do with the dress to make the back a bit looser if you don't end up losing weight? One shop I went to said they could add in extra fabric behind the laces. It doesn't look tight but more for if u decide it could be more confortable.

Stunning! It looks a million times better on you than the other brides and the model!

I think it looks perfect and any weight you do or don't lose probably won't make any difference to the way it looks on you anyway. It's beautiful ?

I agree with everyone else really. If you find a standard one you should try it for comparison, but the pics look gorgeous. I think the stranded seems to have slightly more of a dropped waist on the model/real bride pics you posted. It doesn't look wrong on them, but the petite looks lovely on you. The belt sits perfectly at your natural waist and really suits you. It doesn't look too small either, so I don't think you should go up a size, especially if you're planning to lose a little (not that you need to!).x
