We went last August on our "tour of the UK"!!

Stayed in a cheap but lovely hotel in the South of the city, right near the city walls (Ibis York Centre).

We went to Clifford's Castle, walked around the walls, visited the Shambles and York Minster. All this in a day.

    Loved it. Beautiful city.

There are so many lovely guests houses in York I don't think you can go wrong! We stayed at Hotel 53 last New Year, our original room had a broken shower so they upgraded us to one of the more expensive ones which was absolutely lovely, and the food was great there too.

No accommodation reccomendations, but you should go to the Museum Gardens.. it's lovely in there, and you can just sit around on the lawns or the ruins and have a picnic.. Might be a bit chilly in Feb, but worth a look/wander around anyway

I work in York so know the city pretty well, what sort of things do you like to do/see? There are loads of hotels close to the centre of the city, but if you wanted to stay a bit further out (and by a bit further, I mean 5-10 mins drive) I can't recommend the Pavilion Hotel enough - we got married there and every single one of our guests commented on how lovely it was. It's halfway between York city centre and the designer outlet.

I know York quite well but live close so no idea about places to stay, if you are looking for something a bit different there is jolly days glamping site on the outskirts, that is fab! We did a greatghost walk and the guy told us a few tales about the Hilton so that would put me off there but other than that I have no idea. If you want some info on things to do etc have a look on www.yorkshire.com there is hotels on there too. If you want recommendations for places to eat I can think of a few

No recs on places to stay as am a resident, but you should definitely go to Cafe Concerto for cheesecake while you are there. Other cakes are available too...
