Thinking of starting dog walking for a bit of extra pocket money

daisymoo86, 29 September, 2014 at 11:56 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

With the build up to t he wedding I am thinking I could do with some extra cash. I have considered a few ideas and some of them are just not feasible . I hit upon the idea of offering dog walking services in my local area. We live fairly near a big park and I do have experience of handling dogs. My questions are, if you are a dog owner what would encourage you to use a dog walking service? What is the maximum price you would consider paying? And how often do you think you would require the service?

Thanks guys!

Have you looked to see if there are any near you already! My ex is in derby and I know she gets her dog walked by someone (Darley park area). Do you know any neighbours with dogs who may fancy it? Word of mouth usually works best, so maybe ask friends and family?

weve had dog walkers before, both people from nearby where we lived who wanted a few quid. They had dogs themselves so we trusted them with ours, iykwim?

I'd have thought your biggest market would be people that work so would you be available during an average working day or do you work yourself?

I work during the days myself, so was thinking it could be an evening/weekend thing for me to do to get some extra cash.

I live in a different area of Derby so no conflict with the Darley Park dog walkers, luckily there doesn't appear to be anyone in my village at the mo that offers the service but none of my neighbours have dogs to trial it on them first. Think I will just need to bash my name around the village and see what, if any, interest I get!

Personally I can't see there being much call for people needing dog walkers at the weekend and in the evening, definitely not regularly anyway, it may just be on the odd occasion they are out for the day I suppose.

I'd look for someone who was fully insured as that would lead me to believe they're a responsible person personally.

I'd probably pay about £8-10 an hour so in theory it could cost £200 a month if I got my dog walked 5 days a week for an hour a time.... Ideally I'd like to pay less but considering min wage is about £6.50 I don't think the service would be offered for much less than that.

I pay £10 per day for my dog walker and she visits 4 times a day, takes them out for a long walk in the middle of the day, feeds them and will put them to bed if I'm out all day. She's a gem and I trust her as she's an ex policewoman.
