Sorry if already posted but the search didn't find anything for me! What is it all about? I've heard snippets that they left a rude answering machine message, but why? And if it was lewd etc how on earth did they do it while on radio?

This is a discussion on events though, not a tabloid propaganda exclusive!

True true. I didn't mean it in that way.

I meant as in: AS has said he wishes for it to drop, most people on here have said it should be dropped and that the newspapers are dragging it on/making it into something it's not, yet as long as the public are interested in talking about it (which we obviously are, me included as I've been reading this thread with interest) then it'll stay front page news.

again though - all that is irrelevant. the very point of this is that AS was offended (and many others) by what was said. there is no context of comments in relation to her, its irrelevant. also of no consequence is what she is choosing to do now, ie court the media, it does not alter the original issue in any way.

katchoo - fair enough re the transcript. however i still disagree with almost everything you ve said on this thread.

I just don't know what on earth the pair were thinking of to leave such a message in the first place, it was such a stupid, irresponsible, childish, hurtful thing to do [zebra type shrug]

Despite what Russel would try and have you believe, neither of them is exactly Brain of Britain.

RB has passed beneath my radar until now, but I have to say, what a thoroughly skanky individual he appears to be. I don't think anyone comes out of this particularly well. And if I read "due to unforeseen circumstances" one more time I shall have to stick pins in my eyes.

Well, they've been suspended from their jobs which Is probably as strong as its going to get (can't see them sacking JR?)

I also think RB is a scruffy diseased little urchin I'm afraid. He looks like the kind of man who'd wipe his willy on the curtain afterwards.

This whole thing is leaving me feeling very depressed.

If RB and JR loose their jobs over this then the BBC will go down in my estimation. Of course they made a mistake in not editing out the whole sorry incident, everyone invloved has apologised. Even AS is quoted as saying that JR loosing his job would not help anybody....the BBC will loose respect from me into being bullied into a rash decision by the tabloid press.

Enquiries should happen yes, into what happened and why the editing/producing breakdown occured, but RB and JR to a certain extent have made their reputations on un-scripted and edgy 'out pourings', that's what RB was employed for, that's what he's good at (in my opinion, I know others will totally disagree).

Ok, if they're both sacked, they'll simply be employed by someone else. RB alone has well over 500,000 regular listeners. It's a horrible, nasty witchunt and it's makes me very depressed.

I was listening to the radio late last night and several people rang in who had officially 'complained' to say that they weren't actually offended, they just didn't like JR so thought they'd get a complaint in. sad.

Actually, on the back of the I hate the press comment I am getting prettty angry about it. If I was that woman, I can honestly say I would suffer greatly from this kind of humiliation. In fact, I am pretty sure I would consider ending my life (that may sound melodramatic, but I can see from my own limited experiances how you'd think theer was never a way to get away from this)

This disposable treatment of people by the press is bloody shameful.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

18k complaints... And a corporation that represents itself as being publicly funded.

    Hard to ignore.

I cannot believe this has been blown up like it has!

I'm not disputing that AS may feel offended and he has every right to, however I think it's ridiculous the covering it's getting.

IMO apologies from RB, JR and the producers should suffice.

And as for the bloody prime minister getting involved - has he really nothing better to do? That is just laughable to me. The country is in the midst of some of the worst financial situations in a very long time and GB is worrying about this - speaks volumes to me!

    Suspending them is OTT.

I also find it rather amusing how the number of complaints appears to be rising (they were reporting 10K yesterday, now it's just been 18K), wonder if that's to do with the daily hate mail.

Yes it's a shame it happened but it's not the end of the world!

    Nikki

I mean coverage in the media not hitched when I say blown up ?.

And I too reside in the "I'd do RB" camp ?.

I agree with HC, ND, PP and QR. When you consider the impact of DD on MB's conduct the who RB, JR, AS thing has become OTT. However, with the only other news being the IMF, DT, R, etc. you can understand why the NPs such as The DM are desperate for a different lead item. They want something new to pull papers of shelves rather than the same old D&G, IYSWIM. That does not in anyway WSE minimalise the fact that AS, a NT, has been offended. Also, what GB does FAL should be of no consequence. And according to the BBC the fact that GB DTD with RB is only alleged by RB.
