Those having canapés

MrsSkinner2be, 9 April, 2013 at 19:40 Posted on Planning 0 11

How many are you providing per person?

Our wedding is at 2pm for half an hour-ish then we are serving canapés and a drinks reception. We can only afford to provide 3 canapés per person and 1 drink (more drink will be supplied with the food and for toasting). Do you think 3 canapés is ok? We intend to have photos taken and be say down to eat at 4.00 with the speeches being after the food so I think 3 canapés would mean people won't be starving but also won't be full.

Jusy feel a bit stingy - if people think its not enough then would you just not do them at all? Getting more is not an option money wise

    That sounds fine!

Our wedding is at 1pm in Church, then traveling to venue for canapes and drinks reception. We are having two drinks and 4 canapes per person, but our wedding is earlier than yours. I think we are eating our dinner around 4pm-ish (I can never remember these little details, I'm afraid!)

Sounds fine and the same as we did. Nobody went hungry, don't worry.

I don't think it's stingy at all. Your wedding is "post lunch" - ours is also at 2pm - and your wedding breakfast is not late so it's just a little nibble with a drink whilst you are having your photos and they mingle.

we are providing 3 types of canapé but it'll be about 6 each on average.

Personally I never eat the canapés at weddings, but then I am odd and OH always makes me take them for him to eat anyway!

I think it'll be fine and certainly no one will comment on it so it doesn't matter!

We are having 4 per person, but you know there are always a few guests (like moi) who have had to pour themselves into their dresses that morning and will be abstaining, so the hungry ones will end up with more than 3! :-)

That is fine, we are also having 3 with buksfizz each. I think that's enough to snack on as they will be having a meal which will fill them up.

    I actually have no idea!

Sounds like 3 per person would be fine.

We haven't really gotten around to looking at the menu package in detail but i believe we have 4 canapés and 1 drink upon arrival each... The timing of your day is pretty much the same as ours wedding at 2pm, wedding breakfast at 4-4:30pm... we are toying with the idea of breaking the speeches up and doing them at different stages though the meal or at the end...

This doesn't sound stingy at all and i wouldn't worry about what other people think hun this is your day they are not there to pick fault with the food x

Sounds ok to me. If you are really worried and have the money can you put out some kind of cheese board or pretzels or something? I wanted to do a few platters for our wedding but wanted to do it ourselves and Im not sure thats allowed

    Hi MrsSkinner2be,

I think that three canapés sound about right, especially as your wedding ceremony is 'post-lunch' as another hitcher helpfully pointed out. My only concern would be that you are only having one drink per person for a reception that will last an hour and a half. In my experience, especially if it is hot, people will be clamouring for a drink as soon as they leave the ceremony, and will guzzle down their allocation in about 5 minutes. If you have any spare money in the budget, I would put it towards more drink allocation (think iced water, fruit juice, or sparkling wine - not Moet!).

    Hope that helps, M x

Personally, if I was going to a 2pm wedding (as ours is too!) I would eat beforehand. I think most people would (I can't be the only gannet out there!), so you could get away with no canapes?
