Those Of You Not Staying At Your Venue

Red Baroness, 20 June, 2012 at 09:36 Posted on Planning 0 18

What are you doing about transport to go home or wherever it is that you're going? We've only got about a 5 min journey home, so I don't want to be forking out lots of money on a car for that, but it would be nice if it was something a little bit special.

My OH is hiring a 1950s Morgan, so he can drive us away. It's cute because he loves cars and wants to drive us away into the sunset blah blah, but god knows how I'm gonna fit in it with my dress. ?

Yes, this is the other concern. It will need to be roomy whatever it is!

The problem is, I couldn't tell him no, because then I'd have to tell him what my dress is like, and I don't want him to know.

I have images of me being like that girl on DTTB when she couldn't fit in the seat at Alton Towers Thorpe Park!

I hadn't really thought about this! Our venue is a restaurant without rooms, but a luxury hotel is included in the package, for which they provide limo transport. Given the logistics of checking out of our night before hotel and taking all of our three weeks worth of luggage to the wedding night hotel, we asked if we could have the luxury hotel for the following night instead (which also means we get to make the most of it!).

On the wedding night, we're going back to the hotel that we stayed in the night before, with my sister and her husband. We'll probably just end up getting a taxi. I do love the idea of getting a special car, but it probably wouldn't be worth the money just for that short journey.

This is exactly what we've been saying. Then Mr RB's sister piped up and said "a lovely car just makes a wedding I think". ? Yes, if you're turning up in it, not going home.

We are staying a 2 min walk from the venue. However, we have to take everything away with us on the night, most is being delegated to others but we want to take post box and presents so I envisage a taxi just for stuff with us following it up the road on foot!! Unless its raining then we'll jumpin too!

RB, if you hire a car and drive it yourself, you'll get a better deal that having someone drive it for you. If you/your OH isn't bothered about drinking, of course. Ours is costing £170 for 24 hours. Hiring a car & someone to drive would cost way more than that - and we'd only have it for a couple of hours.

Our reception is at home. We are staying at the Wensum Valley Hotel and Golf Club next door. I think we will walk. It'll be fun in my big frock.

Only problem is lack of pavement on the country lane. I just hope my dress is bright bough to catch and drivers eyes.

We'll both be drinking no doubt. Not copious amounts, but probably enough to be over the limit.

Kharv, I think a taxi is looking likely. I'd rather go to the hotel spa on honeymoon instead.

I thought about what I was going to do about getting back to the hotel too. I'm so pleased I didn't sort anything to be honest - it was so much easier (and cheaper) just to jump in a taxi. I actually think me and H even went in separate taxis! Ha!

We're getting a taxi too. I imagine we'll both be a little worse for wear!

When you think about it, another couple of hundred pounds when you're planning a wedding isn't a great deal of money, but if you think about what that couple of hundred pounds could buy you when you're on your honeymoon, you'll probably be glad you saved it.

Could be worth checking if the local taxi company has luxury vehicles available? They might have something a bit nicer than a regular taxi but not costing a great deal more.
