We're currently decorating our kitchen / diner.
The kitchen is quite dark, so we're having white walls, some tongue and groove, white ceilings and oak worktops. Some of the kitchen doors are a pale sage green.
The diner is long and narrow, so we're painting the end wall a slate grey, with a white radiator cover, with the hope that it'll make it feel less corridor like. We have a cream / beige stone floor throughout both.
I'm really into the whole shabby chic thing and wanted a neutral kitchen / diner so that I could dress it up with brightly coloured cookware / teapots etc - but have a change whenever I fancied. The only other strong colour we'll have in our diner is our sofas, which are aubergine. However, I like sage green and purple together.
The house is an old cottage that's been virtually rebuilt and extended within the last 5 years, so it's very much a mix of old and new. The kitchen is old, and the diner is a new (fairly characterless) extension.
I need a really striking piece of art to go on that end wall to bring it in (if that makes sense.) As the whole thing is a sort of modern cottage style, I'm not sure what to go for. Any ideas?
