Those serving a set menu...

leni, 31 March, 2009 at 15:04 Posted on Planning 0 14

If your serving a set menu, are you making the guests aware of the menu prior to the day so they can inform you of any dietry issues such as allergies, vegatarian etc

We're looking at serving...

Either ... Smoked Haddock Fishcake or Pate and Toast

Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding

Apple Pie and Custard

To give guests a choice costs us £5 per person, per course

I think I will just put a note on our information sheet to advise if you have any dietary requirements.

No! Decided it would be more hassle than it was worth - people telling you they don't like certain things on the menu, can they just switch to a veggie starter because they don't like the starter you've chosen ... we simply asked "please let us know any dietary requirements" - people don't have to see the menu to let you know this. A friend let us know she was allergic to pork, so we asked them to make her main course without parma ham, another was allergic to shellfish so we got her starter swapped for the veggie one.

H and I recently received a wedding invite and it has the menu in there. TBH I don't really fancy the starter and the main course is a meat I never choose to eat, but I'm not paying for it, at the end of the day, it's the B&G's choice so I will eat as much as I can on the day! I would rather I hadn't been told at all.

Same here. We're simply asking people to let us know in advance of any special requirements or if children's meals are required through the information cards sent out with the invites. I don't think I could handle giving people a choice ?

    WEES!

I don't want to have to cater for peoples' 'preferences' (might sound harsh but it would be a logistical nightmare) but of course want to know of any allergies, dietary requirements etc.

I'm vegetarian and like with any dinner invite I always tell the hosts I don't eat meat even if they don't ask but others might not!

Just ask them if they have any dietry requirements. They don't need to know your menu.

We just told people that we were having a three meat carvery, vegetarian options would be made up on the day for each individual.

We asked for dietary requirements per person too.

We did give guests a choice but I agree with the others who said just give guests the chance to tell you any specific dietary requirements / allergies rather than telling them what the menu is or you may well have loads of fussy people annoying you - my friend certainly did, things like, ooh, I'd prefer chips rather than mash etc.

your wedding menu is almost identical to ours......smoked salmon rillette, roast beef and yorkshires

    choc tart

we are not giving guests a choice. we have not informed them of what the meal will be.

I know of 1 vegi, and i have ordered accordingly.

If someone turns up on the day and not told me in the wedding reply they are vegi then tough, too bad, boo hoo.

    My dad hates the starter.

both my mum and MIL hate the pud.

am i gonna stress?.............i did, but then, you know its what we want not them.............

YOU CANT PLEASE EVERYONE - PLEASE YOURSELF AT LEAST!! X X X X

We are having a set menu but are not telling guests what the food is in advance of the day. Tbh I even forget to mention re: dietary requirements / veggie etc on info sheet which went out with all the invitations. I have found however that people have just told us anyway if they are veggie or gluten free.

Your menu sounds nice. I have agnosied over ours a bit but at the end of the day with a set menu I suppose you have to accept that you can't please everyone.

We haven't given guests a choice, we've just asked for dietary requirements on rsvp cards. I've also spoken to parents of small children to ask if they are ok with the (albeit posh) chicken nuggets and chips or if they wanted to be upgraded to the older kids meal which is a smaller portion of what we are having.

We also made a point of choosing something most people will like - roast chicken and profiteroles. Our only 'out there' selection was the mushroom risotto starter.

I think you are opening yourself up to a nightmare if you tell people what they are having, plus it keep some of the surprise!

On the reply card we're asking people to note down any dietary requirements. I'm a veggie, so I'm making sure the veggie option's nice! Also my Dad has lots of food allergies, so we'll get him something special.

    Not giving anyone a choice!
