Those who bake bread in a breadmaker...

catwoman, 5 October, 2008 at 20:27 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

What do you store it in? We got our breadmaker as a wedding present, so 3 years ago now. Initially, we used it lots, but then the novelty wore off. We've dug it out again in the hope that if we can avoid going to Tesco for bread, we will spend less generally...pop in for a loaf, come out with a bag full of shopping and a tenner down. Hmmm.

Anyway, I'm rambling. What do you keep the bread in? We used to have the Lakeland bread bags, but they went mouldy after a long-forgotten loaf was left there. We're a bit pushed for worktop space, so something that can go in the cupboard would be ideal...

Thanks.

We have a breadbin. I wrap the loaves in cling film and put them in there.

We don't use our breadmaker very often so when we do it doesn't last very long so I tend to just wrap it in tin foil and leave on the side (usually gone within a day or two) - not really very helpful!

We use a air tight container. Infact I think it is the same one I bought years ago before we met up that time.

Saying that it still only seems to stay 'fresh' for about 3 or 4 days.

Oooh, yes, where was that from? Was it a Lakeland one? We seem to be eating a loaf within 2-3 days atm so there's not really a lot of chance for it to go stale, it's just a case of somewhere to keep it where it won't dry out really. We're currently using tinfoil...

    Hi

I use these from Lakeland: /11535/12-large-breathable-fresh-homemade-bread-storage-bags

They are the same as the bags they use in the in store bakeries in supermarkets.

I store mine in 'lock and store' boxes which I got from lakeland. That said they only last 2 or 3 days at the most as they don't the perservatives that shop bought ones have.

I'm sure it was lakeland. I remember I got it in Pboro and there was one there. All I remember is the shop had a blue and yellow logo ?.

The usual in our house is that a good chunk of the loaf is eaten within about an hour of coming out of the breadmaker ? - we just wrap it in a clean teacloth and then slice it the next day and freeze it sliced, so we just take what we need out the freeer.

If you put a little oil or butter in the bread mix it should help the loaf last longer but still only 2-3 days probably.
