Mandie, 21 September, 2008 at 20:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

I start a cleaning jpb tomorrow, the lady ahs never had a cleaner before so she didn't seem to certain on what she wanted doing. I've got 3 hours. She said just general cleaning. dusting, hoover and wash floors, inside windows, clean kitchen, bathroom etc. What do your cleaners do and how long does it take them?

2 cleaners working for 2 hours on a 2 bedroom house. It would pass a white glove test and they deep clean one room each clean on rotation. The clean usually lasts a couple of weeks with only some minimal cleaning on the weeks when they're not here.

I have one cleaner for 3h a week. (I could really do with her coming twice a week but I can't afford it at present). She cleans the kitchen - hob, surfaces, sink, dusting, sweeps and mops kitchen floor. Cleans shower room and bathroom including moppings floors. Vacuums all rooms (three beds one reception), low dusting/polishing.Polishes mirrors. Straightens beds, plumps up pillows/sofas etc.

She doesn't do inside windows, high dusting, or the utility room, or outside of kitchen cupboards, inside oven/fridge/microwave, or skirting boards, unless I ask her to (and then she doesn't really have time to do everything else).

Thanks. But what do they actually do, what else other than what I have put? My husband said about wiping skirting boards, so that's on my list. The lady really wasn't much help, I did keep asking ?

Thanks, I have added mirrors, pillow plumping, inside fridge and microwave. I am having a real brain freeze about what needs to be done!

Two women clean my place for an hour each. Bathroom done from top to bottom, kitchen benches and floors washed, microwave cleaned. Dishwasher emptied. Floors in the rest of my place that aren't mopped are vacuumed. Living room dusted, mirrors cleaned of my grubby fingerprints. Bedsheets washed, ironed and changed. Then either windows are cleaned, extra ironing done, silver cleaned, kitchen cupboards or fridge cleaned etc.

I have just ha new cleaner in as a trial so can tell you what wasnt done ut I had thought would be..

bathroom and bedroom waste bins emptied

    window sills dusted

furniture moved and cleaned behind - small soaf and wicker box im talking

    mirrors cleaned

    kitchen bin wiped clean

but i didnt specify everything so maybe that was my fault. But having had another firm in for a trial first they had left house totally spotless and did seem to clean as per Barons post so had high expectations. Myabe that is why this was half the price though !!!!!

Our cleaner does 4 hours once a week (3 bed, 2 receptions, kitchen, bathroom, downstairs loo)

    She does this every week:

    • hoovers throughout
    • washes all wooden/tiled/laminate floors
    • dusts/polishes, including all skirting boards
    • cleans bathroom
    • cleans kitchen, including hob and fridge
    • cleans downstairs loo
    • sweeps patio

Every week she does a 'big' job such as:

    • washes curtains
    • cleans windows
    • washes down all paintwork, doors etc
    • cleans oven
    • washes blinds
    • shampoos carpets (when we were on holiday)

    I love her!

Edited to add the bits I forgot: she wipes doen all the kitchen cupboards weekly, does all mirrors and glasswork, straightens all the beds, cushions etc, cleans any rugs/mats, empties and washes all bins... God she's great?

Thanks all. I hadn't thought of bins actually, so that's another on the list. This is great, cheers!

Each day I spend 20 mins per room - dusting, hoovering or washing hardwood floors. I do wipe skirting, bannisters with a damp cloth each day - Front door (inside) as it's white gloss too.

Interior windows I rub over with an M&S glass cloth - outside gets done by window cleaner

    Stairs hoover each day

    Coving dust round

once a week take all cushions off & hoover the sofas

Once a month hoover behind radiators or put a long feather duster down the back.

I find Flash Clean & Care (Bicarb flavour) really good & fresh clean smell.

I'm just a little ol' housewife, so don't get paid?

    Do they have pets

Yeah, they have a dog. But he will be in a cage in the kitchen. She did say I could let him out if I want to, which I will. He doesn't need to be fed or anything though.

Do your cleaners bring ther ir own stuff, or just use yours? She said to use hers but bring anything if I want to or leave her a note and she'll supply it.

Our cleaner buys the stuff she wants to use (which gets left here) and we pay for it. Sometimes she leaves a list, other times she leaves a recepit. She uses different stuff to what I used to buy but it really doesn't matter to me being as I hardly ever touch any of it.

Ok, I think I'll just leave her a note when things start to run low. Thanks again.

I think she meant from the point of view that pet hair and odours take longer to clean.

I'm the cleaner in my house.

With the pet hair - damp j-cloth on fabric & a hard hand brush.

Kitchen floors/hardwood floors - I think - hands & knees approach is the best way of cleaning with a cloth - I find mops are ok as a quick once over, but does not clean the floors.

Thanks, damp j cloth tip is great. We have 3 kittens so I'm always scrubbing the floors, but have leather sofas so no worry there.
