Those who make necklaces, tiaras etc...

Monkeybear959, 28 December, 2009 at 23:19 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi Ladies

Just a quick question, I'm getting more and more into crafts these days, I bake and decorate cakes, I knit, occasionally sew (Kirstie's homemade home has spurred me on more and more!) and want to start to make my own personal pieces, I'm quite fussy about what I like to wear and often think it would be better if I made my own. I'm not looking to do this for anything else other than my own amusement and the odd birthday present, I tried to make a bit of money out of cake decorating and it quickly turned into a chore than fun...

What would you recommend I get to start me off?

Thanks

Claire x

Have a look in Hobbycraft for the info leaflets as they are good at telling you what materials you need and instructions on how to create a certain piece. Apart from that I just googled and bought stuff from ebay at the start and took it from there. I wouldn't buy anything from Hobbycraft as it's expensive. I'm sure there are books you can read but I didn't so can't recommend any.

    Have fun x

I second what PG says, have a nose in Hobby craft for the leaflets but DONT buy anything from there, they are so expensive. Ebay is your best bet for all your findings & beads, also dont go for mega cheap jewellery tools (I made this mistake when I first started out)

Have you had a look at any of the jewellery making magazines? There are a couple of UK ones at most supermarkets/paper shops

Make Jewellery & Making jewellery (Ithink thats what they are called)

If you get stuck, give me a shout

Same here really, I would def have a look in hobbycraft at the leaflets and jewellery making books. When I'm excited and impatient I end up getting the odd thing from there but it really is too expensive! You can get materials much cheaper online.

There are some jewellery making websites and discussion forums online which might also help.

    Enjoy! x
