Those with chickens...Probably TMI for non-chicken owners

Pittabre, 21 July, 2014 at 15:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

Have you ever had one... erm present her bottom to you?

Mine were hatched in March so are lets say approx 16 weeks now. This morning Madison did a very bizarre dance at me, I storked her back and she turned round and presented a very large moist vent at me. I was slightly surprised and withdrew my hand. Tried stroking her again and the same thing happened again. I called my son over in bemsuement and she stalked off muttering to herself. Has she hit sexual maturity quite early then? And has she assumed I am a huge rooster? I suspect I won't be able to type the proper name?

I'm sorry to say that I had six chickens for quite some time and I never saw a vent bring offered in such a way.

As far as chickens are concerned- I am a munter

What does that mean 'that you are a munter'?

Betsy has now also presented herself to me after stroking her back.... just Lucy to go although part of me doesn't want to accidentally lead her on as well....

Oh! No wonder the chickens are attracted to me, it's my stupidity that makes me seem unthreatening?

Well it isn't as straight forward as a foof is a vent because they only have one exit hole for everything.

Is that why sometimes eggs have poo on them? ?

We currently have three, Betsy, Lucy and Madison. My daughters nursery hatched chicks and I asked what happened to them afterwards and there was just a shrug of the shoulders so after the kids asked could we have them and we took the girls. They are definitely not livestock in our household though. A colleague at work has a small holding with lots of animals and she is aghast at how we keep them. This morning they got porridge for breakfast with bananas in it?

Aww that's lovely! I very much want to keep them as pets not livestock as well. We don't have suitable space for them at the moment, but when we move one of the conditions is we can keep chickens. A garden centre near us has some and I have to hunt them down for a "chat" whenever we're there.
