Thought I'd decided on a ring..

Piestar, 7 June, 2013 at 20:10 Posted on Planning 0 9

I LOVE stars and thought I'd find the ring I loved. Asking a local jeweller of they could make this design, it came out a lot more expensive. I've spoken to Chris today, I can't afford a platinum one (same add my ER) but I could afford the Palladium one at £295. I'm just not sure about how thick it is - or rather how high it will stand on my finger. So you think it looks a bit blokey? I think I'm a bit dubious that I can't visit him to look at it as it's miles away. I could get a platinum one for about £300 but it'd be plain.

I think that's really pretty, it's very unique. What is your engagement ring like? Would it 'match'?. Perhaps if you're worried about it looking blokey it could be made thinner? I don't think it looks blokey at all though. I thought I just wanted a plain band but I keep seeing lovely patterned ones on here and it's making me think...

Hmm its difficult to tell without knowing what your engagement ring is like to know if it will go. It looks more like a stand alone ring to me rather than one to accompany your engagement ring IYSWIM?

I do think its pretty though and not blokey if you follow what I said above

TBH I don't mind if it doesn't match, I'm a random kind of person and don't mind if things are different. I'd have to ask how high it stands and if they can make it thinner of it's too high. This is my engagement ring:

    The ring is lovely...x

A couple of questions...can you wear different metals next to each other? I know they are from the same metal group but I had read somewhere you shouldn't mix.

The other thing. - does your engagement sit in line at the bottom? Ie will you be able to wear a round band next to it without their being a gap? There are no rules re this but I have decided against wearing my engagement ring once I have my wedding band as it meant either having a gap between the two or having a curved wedding band to accommodate the difference. I will probably wear me ER on my right hand afterwards.

As I say that's just me (I have OCD), I know other people that wear it that way.

The ring doesn't look blokes at all - unless your hands are the size of a four year old lol.

Pretty much everything I've read says Platinum and Palladium are fine together with them being nearly the same compound. I've worn silver next to platinum for around 5 years and even that hasn't written down although it's supposed to be softer.

That's what I thought. The jeweller we saw only deals in platinum and palladium which made me think that was the case.

I do love the star ring x

It says at the bottom of the page choose your ring width, why won't he do that for you?

It's really about how it looks on and what it looks like next to your ER, I found a ring a while ago that I loved but it just didn't look right with my ER.

That's what I thought. But then when I wore the wedding band without my ER it didn't look right. I then decided to get the WR I really wanted and transfer my ER to the other hand.

I think I'm from an older generation - most older people tend to just wear their wedding band (or the ones I know do). God I'm only 38!!!

Soooo I had a smooch consultation t'other day, And he basically said that they can put any design on any ring in any metal pretty much. so if you show them a picture of the start ring, they could have that recreated for you.

A palladium plain pain was around £290 and it doesnt cost extra to have engraving put on it, and they will do free redips, repolish and resize for life.

    Worth looking into

Yeah I know you can change the width, it was how high it stands off my finger I was curious about. I tried a highish one in a shop at it was fine and looked okay. Smiley smile

I'll have a look into smooch, thanks! X
