Thoughts Please, Friends! **FLASH**

babybirdandmouse, 2 November, 2010 at 19:56 Posted on Planning 0 11

Following on from my thread last night regarding the reception venue, me & Andy went to the preferred venue to meet the owner & go through all of the details tonight. As soon as you walk in, it looks fab with oodles of character which is just what we were after. Ok, so it looks a little small mainly because it is narrow but for with no more than 80 guests, why would we need a bigger space?

This is a picture taken from behind the bar.

And here is a picture of the room set up for a wedding reception.

I would like the white drapes hanging from the windows & down (or up!) the staircase as people walk in but the table decor as follows:

That table is obviously set up for a wedding breakfast whereas we would only have a few tables scattered around the outside of the room with centrepieces, disposable cameras & some other pretty bits 'n' pieces!

Ok, so after my waffling on, the point of my post is this: the venue has a fully integrated sound system so there is no need for a DJ & to be frank, the owner can't stand them! Andy likes this idea because the playlist is made from A-Z by us & we can control the volume etc. My concern is that we wouldn't have much of a 'party' atmosphere. This venue prides itself on being unique & offering a different type of function, which it certainly does. I'm just thinking will our guests find it odd that there is no DJ ... will our guests even dance??

They are going to do some BBQ type food to suit Andy's request, a bit later in the evening serve canapes for nibbles & will even stock specialist drinks on request. I love this place but am just worried about the no-DJ thing!!

I wouldn't worry about no DJ. As long as there's music, people will dance. DJs are overrated in my opinion (well maybe thats because I havent seen any decent ones) as most of them dont even say much anyway, I've found they generally stand there! Plus by not having a DJ, there'll be more room = bigger dancefloor

    Lovely venue by the way!

    It's gorgeous! Love the beams.

With the "no DJ" thing, it should be ok as long as you can play things at the right sort of volume for dancing (rather than background music!), and you can dim the lights to make it more disco-ish.

Firstly got to say lovely venue and great colour scheme (biased as its mine too ?)

As for the Dj I wouldnt worry cos most people will dance if the music is good. And at house party's people always dance dont they?

there is always one person if not more in a group that will get everyone going x

I have to say I LOVE IT, so different but really nice, especially love your colour scheme!!

I don't think you have anything to worry about it with the Dj, if theres music in some sorts then it will be fine Smiley laugh

One of my friend's didn't have a DJ and just used an ipod, the sound system was dreadful, some people went home early as the dancing was in a different room but i have to say it was one of the BEST weddings ever. A group of us danced all evening long, it was definitely memorable. Maybe you could ask people on their wedding invites to give you their favourite party tune and include these throughout the night.

I wouldn't worry about not having a DJ - most of them mumble incoherent cheeseiness into the mike all night anyway and you have to go up and request any decent music that you want them to play. Providing you have a good mix of music played at the right volume, everyone will dance. What you could do, is at the end of your first dance, you and your OH go and get someone else up to dance to the next song, then you separate from them and get the next lot of people up etc - that works really well to get loads of people on the dance floor and once they're up, some at least will always stay up

We were thinking of asking those that declined our invitation if they'd supply details of a favourite song from the 60's onwards that we could put on a random shuffle during the times that our band aren't playing so they could still kinda be part of our day.
