thread or wax? slight wp ref

AuntieBJ, 28 March, 2014 at 13:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 17

My eyebrows are horrendous - practically crawling around my face, heading down towards my eyes and across towards each other and I know I need to do something with them before the wedding (that's it, I promise!)

But, the last time I went and had them threaded, in superdrug, I felt really really nauseous - I don't know if it was because it was really warm in there or because I just didn't like the sensation.

I've never ever had them waxed so no idea how I would react to that but really want to get something done with them asap so that I know what I'm going to go with nearer the day itself.

I'm not the type to fuss over myself - hardly ever wear make-up for instance, but I'm getting older and want to make the most of what I have before it all starts to go grey!

What's the consensus ladies? thread or wax?

I like the precision of threading. I have my eyebrows HD'ed which is a combo of threading, waxing, tinting etc.

On the pain level, they're both pretty similar, tho threading is a weird sensation I agree! But im one of those weird people who likes the pain haha

I've had both and found threading better - more precision and not so much sore as a weird sensation! I did find threading took a bit longer than waxing though.. or maybe it was the different lady.

Another vote for threading. Much more precise

I had mine waxed a couple of times but didn't go back after one girl made me bleed!

I have only ever had mine waxed, but not adverse to the idea of threading.

I have rubbish eyebrows, crap shape, thin, weedy colour. Rod, what is this HD thing you speak of? I've seen your eyebrows so can't imagine what they look like without the grooming... Also, I am mousy so anything dark will look ludicrous.

I have the opposite problem - I over-plucked mine horrendously in the 90s when thin brows were in fashion and now they're sparse and rubbish. I have a fringe which mostly covers them but it's getting longer and parting more so they are visible, and I need to learn how to fill them in! I'm almost 40 and have never bought a brow product before.

I used to have HD brows done but now I do my own. I use Benefit Brow Zings and Benefit Gimme Brow. I really don't get how some people do nothing with their brows, having a good brow shape is so important!

Out of interest how long do results last when you get your eyebrows threaded? I've only 5 weeks to go till the wedding and don't want my eyebrows drastically changed, just neatened a bit. Would there be time for me to have them done to see if I like it and then have them done again?

Footers. HD is a 7 step process where your eyebrow shape, colouring and face shape are all taken into consideration.

It depends on how fast your eyebrows tend to grow, if i had mine done now, in 5 weeks they wouldn;t be ready to be done again, but they wouldn't be looking as neat as they did when i first had them waxed/ threaded.

Both seem to last as long as me. Waxing isn;t half as painful as threadign in my opinion, but i think it's becuase it's over quicker, it's the moise from threading i can't stand! I tend to have mine waxed as I am a wuss, but overall threading has always seemed more accurate

I prefer threading personally as I find waxing can irritate my skin and leave it red and bumpy. I agree they are pretty much the same on the pain scale though.

Mine also grow pretty quickly and I would definitely need them doing again if I left them for 5 weeks (even with a bit of tweezer tidying up in between!). Suppose it depends on your hair type and colouring though (I'm pale with dark, thick, wavy hair).

I've only ever plucked mine out with tweezers - probably why I have such sh1te eyebrows ?

Mine are a stupid shape as it is though and i'm frightened to get them waxed or threaded incase they take them all off and I look more ridiculous. OH's mum got hers threaded and ended up with a little thin line, think the lady started taking too much off and kept going n had to even them out ?

I have had mine threaded and waxed. I love threading because it is sooooo precise, but my current beautician doesn't do threading, so I have waxing and she is amazing at it.

For the lady asking about the 5 week period - I go every 2 weeks!

My only recommendation is that you are fussy about your beautician. Most beauticians are highly trained, but check they have proper college certificates and not online course ones and if you can, read reviews or get reviews from people you know who go there.

I have been going to my beautician for years, and I wouldn't change for anything. A good beautician is priceless!

I have HD brows too - so a combination of threading/waxing, but if it's one or the other I'd say threading because I like that it's more precise.

I'm still growing my brows to my 'HD shape' because I was getting it done regularly then didn't go for a few months and plucked them like crazy so I'm back to the beginning. I don't get them tinted but just have them shaped like that and then use benefit browzings to colour them (though most week days I don't bother and they still look fine). I hopefully start getting them tinted at some stage but I was too worried I wouldn't like it and it would look a bit much on the days I don't bother with make up but she's convinced me they'll look better so I'll start having them tinted soon.

They are the best shape I think I've had and definitely make a difference.

I've been thinking about trying out threading for my eyebrows as I just use tweezers at the minute and they're not perfectly even but I can't stand to let them go natural for too long; how bushy should I let them get before it's worth having them done?

I think threading keeps them tidier for longer. I have had both done in the past and with waxing I find they grow back quicker and more straggly (stragglier??)

i would like eyebrow tinting or hd brows but I am worried about looking to 'towie' with a thick bold brow.

I would have them waxed and if you like it to go again 2 days before your wedding, depends on how sensitive your skin is as some eyebrows stay red for hours. Mine do! X
