Thyroid issues and less than a year to go....HELP!

smileyheather, 16 June, 2013 at 23:11 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 4

Hello, I'm new to this and with less than a year until our wedding, I'm struggling with my weight. Having thought I was just run down after a big move and new job, I was diagnosed last November with an underactive thyroid. 7 months on and my levels have been checked and appear 'managed', joined a gym and changed my diet, I'm 'still' feeling heavy and anxious about trying on dresses until I've lost my first stone (have two to lose)....any help/advice or tips would be most welcome Smiley smile

    Hi ?

I have an under active thyroid, managed by medication thankfully...............I lost 4 stone with Weight Watchers almost 5 yrs ago and have kept it all off. If I can do it, so can you ?

I too have underactive thyroid. I was originally overactive but had to had radio iodine therapy to shrink my thyroid gland. Thus resulting in me becoming underactive.

I have recently joined Slimming World and I have lost 10lb in 5 weeks.

    It's work a try ?

I'd rather lose weight in a healthy way ~ 3 proper meals a day combined with healthy snacks and moderate exercise = a healthy weight loss that's sustainable for life ?

I agree with doing it the healthy way, especially if you have health issues anyway. This needs to be a long term plan that you can maintain. I have an underactive thyroid and gave up sugar 5 months ago and have lost nearly 2 stone. I can't sick to diets as I just think about food all the time, and I really like food. But try cutting out sugar and eating more fruit and veg. Portion control helps too. Don't starve yourself, i found that since I was diagnosed with thyroid problems I can't go for more than a couple of hours without eating so have little snacks through the day, like oatcakes or toasted pitta breads with a thin smear of peanut butter. You don't want to be feeling hungry.

Exercise is good as long as you're not feeling too tired but it sounds like you have your medication sorted. I walk lots and try to swim whenever I can.

    Good luck Smiley smile
