Tiara Troubles

happy&stressed, 9 September, 2009 at 16:02 Posted on Planning 0 7

Whilst at a fitting for my dress the lovely assistant popped a gorgeous tiara on my head (where else would she pop it!!) but at a price tag of £180 i think its a little pricy, i have seen similar tiaras on different websites but with a very reasonable price tag of around £30. I am sure i seen a thread on here where a few hibs commented that alot of the shops bump up the prices by around 150% so could you tell me if i went for the cheaper one would i still be getting the same quality. i'm worried that it may look cheap. Also my original idea for a tiara was snowflakes as its winter wedding and cake is having a couple on. Dont even start me on what i'm going to do about my BM's tiaras. I'm sooooo confused and worrying about it. Any help or advise would be so much appreciated.

P.S My oh bless him has said that if i really want the £180 one he will pay for it as its our special day.

They do tend to charge a high price in the bridal shops but it depends how much you love it or if you would feel happier sending the money elsewhere. I have a lot of tiaras on my website so you could take a look and see if there is anything similar and they are all available on sale or return. Most internet companies should have a returns policy by law, but that doesn't always apply with ebay or chinese companies, so check it out before you order.

Aww that's really sweet of your OH.

It is really disheartening when you find something you love and then see the price tag! I have to say though I have been rather extravagent with my headpiece - I tried on loads and nothing was doing it for me. I knew the look I wanted to achieve and nothing was coming close until I saw the headpiece I ended up buying. It took me ages to decide whether to bite the bullet and order it because of the price but I'm so glad I did. It's amazing and I can't wait to wear it - hopefully I'll be able to pass it down to my daughter if I have one.

    Hi,

Some shops do charge silly prices and the quality will not necessarily differ from a cheaper alternative (cheaper could even be better). For example I supply to shops and also direct and whilst the prices charged by the shops are (in some cases) a lot lot lot more the quality does not change as I make each item exactly the same.

Sometimes however the item in the shop just needs to be bought if it is what you really want as you might not be happy with anything else and I have experience of this happening to other people.

Considering I make tiaras you'd think I would have made my own wedding tiara but after 2 years of making different styles I asked Flo and Percy to create me one of their fab pieces. Sometimes you just need to pay the higher price to be happy but then sometimes you can save heaps by searching around and be just as happy.

My advice is to keep searching. Google as many searches as possible, ask hibs and other bespoke designers what they would charge, look on ebay, everywhere really. 3d has a good range of stuff so her website is a fab place to start.

If I can help my website is www.lynseysdesigns.co.uk.

I bough my tiara off of e-bay. I loved it. It was only £10 but It looked great from the front. the back of it was really cheap looking, however I had my hair piled ontop of my head so no one seen the back of it.

I have also just got my from ebay, bought it from someone that makes them and it cost £36. She has even put some pearls in with the sparkles, which the original tiara didnt have. It is practically identical to the one i tried on in the shop which was £140! her name on ebay is goddesstiaras

I had the same dilemma. I fell in love with a tiara that was about £180 and I just couldn't justify it when my dress was only £200! I got one in a sale and whilst it looked OK it wasn't what I really wanted but I still wouldn't have paid the price they wanted for the one I really liked. If I'd thought about it I probably could have got a HIB to make me some similiar but its too late now! Have you considered that? Obviously they can't copy it but ...

Its the same as wedding shoes - they're white/ivory, usually quite plain - but the prices are rediculous!! Got mine off ebay for £12, brand new. I wore then for about 2hrs in total and they've never been on my feet since...

I'd shop around ... and the lady in your dress shop will have been using that as a crafty sales pitch - bet its one of the more expensive tiaras they do!!

The one i like on internet does do returns so i might order it and see what i think when it gets here. But will still look around, have yet to look on the websites mentioned here but definatly going to. Mrs Snow i know what you mean about shoes its ridiculous i have seen a pair from an ebay shop for £22 they are plain with pointed toe and 4 inch heel, which is pretty much what i live in. I might get some of those stick on diamontes to decorate them a little. i dont want to spend a fortune because i know i will never wear ivory shoes again.

Mind you looking on the shoes flash thread some of those are just gorgous and makes me think again.............. This wedding malarky drives you mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
