Tiararama- how do they work?!

Umbrellacademic, 23 August, 2009 at 10:41 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hello,

From starting off with a very unconventional punk rock dress to a proper designer ivory floor length number with heels what I wear in my hair has changed from a spectacular fascinator to a sparkly tiara. I have found a couple I liked but am baffled as to how they attach to my head. I will be doing my own hair on the day and the really expensive tiara I saw has a little comb attached, the other doesn't. I'm guessing that you don't just perch it on the head and hope for the best but I don't know!

Any advice would be lovely

    Hi,

It depends on how you are having your hair but usually they are kirby gripped into place. My designs are made on flexible bands so they can be shaped to fit your head so they aren't too big or too tight and then with a few kirbies to secure it you shouldn't have any problems.

If you are having your hair all down I'd suggest looking at designs on hairbands instead of a tiara.

This design on my website can be worn as a hairband or tiara so very versatile

or go for a tiara on a comb like you have mentioned .

Most handcrafted designs can be adapted to use a comb instead of a tiara base and this certainly would hold better in an all down hairstyle.

Hope that helps. Any questions feel free to email and my website is www.lynseysdesigns.co.uk.

Ready made ones on bands come with 2 fixing methods, either combs on the ends of the tiara band or small loops for grips to go through. The combs are not suitable if have short hair as they need to go under the hair. Tiaras that come on combs which push into the hair are only really a good idea if you are going to wear your hair up and for that reason I have stopped selling them as the ones on bands are more adaptable.

Oh got all excited there as I thought someone was after me but alas no!

As the others have said pins and kirby grips are the best options for securing a tiara and depending on how you have you hair sometimes you can even use your hair to secure it by placing hair over the band. Alot of my bigger designs are designed to be incorporated into the hair rather than just being held with pins. It really does depend though on your hair and the style of the piece you are thinking of getting.

Tiaras on combs are secured in two ways depending on which side the decoration is placed on the comb - some have the teeth pointing backwards so they can be pushed into buns and some have the teeth pointing forward and they can be pushed towards the forehead as long as your hair isn't too smooth in style at the front. With combs you can use pins over the teeth and then use kirby grips across them to give them more security.

Personally I hate tiaras with the end combs (not tiaras on combs) and never use them in my pieces. Not only are they uncomfortable but they do have a habit of breaking quite easily because they are more inflexible.
