Tiaras and overall "look"

Fairycake135, 19 March, 2015 at 14:29 Posted on Planning 0 10

I'm wondering what everyone thinks about tiaras - my mum seems set on me having one (in her world, the bigger and more 'blingy', the better) but i wonder if sometimes they are too much? My dress has a lot of detail, sparkles and beads, and I also have a very sparkly belt. Necklaces are out - although strapless, the neckline has sparkly detail which means a necklace is not needed and I plan on wearing dangly earrings. I'm still toying with having a veil, and thought a tiara looked quite pretty, but is this perhaps a bit too much? I really love the idea of having something in my hair, just not sure what. I'd probably take the veil off after the photos too, I imagine i would find it getting in the way. One look i'm loving is having sparkly twists scattered in my hair...but with a tiara, i feel that would be too much. What do you think?

I LOVE tiaras adn the one things I have always known about my wedding, (even before I met the OH,) was that I would be wearing a tiara, because I want to be a princess for a day! My sister has tried to talk me out of it because it doesn't 'fit' with my 'theme,' but I just went and bought one anyway!

However, if you're not all that fussed about a tiara, it does sound like you've got a lot of 'bling' going on anyway. A tiara maybe just a bit too OTT.

Does she mean the traditional princessy ones? I don't like them generally if i'm perfectly honest. I associate them with big fat gypsy wedding or Disney.

Didn't mind Kate M's one but she is kind of a princess so could get away with it.

Not for me to be honest. What about a more modern side tiara thingy? They look very nice and aren't too in your face sticky uppy if that makes sense...

Personally I'm not really a fan of tiaras, they're a bit too princessy for me. I'm wearing a jewelled hair piece instead.

I had the exact same problem. To the point where my mum was practically shoving them on my head in Debenhams!!!! Smiley tongue I knew I didn't want a princessy disney type taira but instead settled for a headband with glitz and sparkle on instead so it lays flat against my head. My poor bridesmaid was also having the same trouble with her mum (just imagine a 24 year old bride and a 17 yer old bridesmaid being attacked by two mums in Debenhams with tiaras..... we must have looked a right sight!!!!). She's gone for a simple dainty headband.I'll try and flash pics below

I never wanted one, but mum was desperate for me to try one. I ended up with a gorgeous side tiara which I love to bits. (report in my signature if you want a peek) I think the crown type ones are a bit ott, but it's your wedding day, why not stand out? Smiley smile

Can you try on some tiaras at your wedding dress shop and see how it looks? Then you can decide whether to go with one or not.

I'm wearing a tiara although my dress hasn't much sparkle/bling on it and it was my Sister's so its my something borrowed, so in that respect it feels nice to incorporate it into my wedding day.

I also think it depends on the type of tiara, I have seen some awful ones which are very gypsy wedding!

My dress is quite sparkly so I've gone for a pearl side tiara and a simple plain veil. I'm not having a necklace but might go for some simple pearl earrings.

I had Nooooooo intention of wearing a tiara, nor a veil, now I have both- I guess these things just happen right!

I had 'decided' that I was going to wear one or the other, however at my hair trial the other day the hairdressers insisted I try both together 'just to see' I was sold there and then, I loved the look. Im not a princess type nor one who goes for lots of blingy things (see my other thread about jewellery lol) but for me it just worked and I figured that its the only day in my life when im going to get to wear this type of thing so why not. I will probably take the veil off after the photos too, but will keep the tiara in.

As others have said I think you need to try it and see how you feel with it on. It certainly worked with me Smiley smile

I am definitely in the 'less is more' camp. Do you mean the sparkly twists that are on little springs (sort of) and look like studs in your hair? I would suggest having either those or the tiara, not both. A side tiara or a sparkly comb slide are both nice alternatives which are a bit less 'little girl' than traditional tiaras. Depends on how you're having your hair too...

Whenever I'm tempted (which is often looking at all the fabulous dresses everyone else is having here) to stump up i.e. raid my savings for an astonishing dress, I remember that mine is simple and inexpensive. This means I can bling up in other areas a bit.

Re-reading that I sound really smugly sanctimonious, I didn't mean to, but it still stands. I think you have to work out what looks great, and what you're comfortable with.
