Timescales...what's the minimum?

Katianne, 17 August, 2012 at 21:00 Posted on Planning 0 9

I've just started planning my wedding and have found a gorgeous venue offering a great deal...but it would mean that I only had 4 months between now and getting married! Is this enough time? I was initially thinking of getting married in about a years time to give me time to get everything done but the deal the venue is offering is almost too good to refuse...plus I have been with my OH for 13 years so it's not as if we are rushing in to it haha!

We've had a previous client pull a wedding together within a week! We got a call 8 days before and guests received their invites with 7 days to spare...

We regularly have clients who are planning weddings within a 6 month time frame- quite frequently 3-4. They're probably as common as the 12-18 month in advance bookings.

One of the most beautiful weddings we've ever been part of was done in 4 months due to a fantastic deal at the venue (£16,000 down to under £5000 I think she said)

If you're realistic about what you can achieve and are willing to put in the work it can be done- for example don't order a wedding dress that will take 3 months to come in Smiley smile

    Good luck!

If you're having a civil ceremony then you'll need to give notice almost as soon as you book, legally you have to give three months notice, minimum. You also need to take in to account your dress, you won't be able to order one that quickly so you'll have to buy a sample. You can get it all done, you just need to be focused & make decisions quickly

I had a client last winter who pulled their wedding together in 4 months and it was a great day! So its definitely realistic you just need as vintage said be quick on decisions, if anything it could save you some money (and stress) planning in a shorter timescale as suppliers tend to have late booking deals and because it will be a winter wedding you should really have just as much choice on certain things as someone planning their wedding a year in advance as its out of the main season so suppliers are less booked up!

    Good luck!!

Thanks everyone. I was thinking of getting my dress 'off the peg' anyway to save on costs and I would have enough time re the wedding licence. My main worry is that I really want to lose some weight before I get married - just go down one dress size...thinking this is doable in 4 months though and might be a good motivator??? ?

Four months is definitely do-able if you aren't too fussy about what band/DJ you have, what dress you might get (off the peg is ideal though) etc. I had 2 years to plan but in some ways I'd have much preferred a quick turn around. Plenty Hitchers in the past have organised weddings in a short period of time and you'd never know from looking at the photographs. x

I thought it was 15 days, not 3 months

So if we were to get married in a different county we would have to go in to their local registration office?

You give notice where you live, but you have to book your wedding through the one that covers your venue

I rang the registrar in the county where I was getting married first and booked. They will tell you what you need to do with regards to giving notice at your local registrars but I would call straight after you've booked.
