Timings

pips123, 1 June, 2009 at 13:22 Posted on Planning 0 4

After a bit of a disaggreement with my MIL2b, I just wanted to see if anyone could help me with my timings for the day. Our reception is a bit of a trek from the church (about 40 mins), we're trying to decide on when the string quartet should start / finish at the reception.

Here are our planned timings so far:

1 - 1.45pm - church service

1.45-2.15pm - photos etc at church (we're just having reportage style photgraphy with the majority of our photos to be at the reception venue, but thought other people might want to take them here).

2.15-3pm - travel to reception

3pm - 4.30ish - drinks reception (with string quartet)

5pm - wedding breakfast.

I know this might seem a bit picky, MIL is insisting the quartet shouldn't start til 3.30pm because people won't be arriving til then. Am I just being stubborn hoping that the guests will all be there, glass in hand, nearer to 3?! Do people like to hang around at the church for ages afterwards? I don't want to lose precious time at my beautiful reception venue! (There will be 80 guests and there's little space outside the church.)

However, at least if the quartet start later, they can finish later! But would it look odd them rocking up at 3.30 when the guests are already there?!

I'm with you on this. Whenever I go to a wedding, I'm usually gagging for a drink by the time the service is over so don't tend to hang the church for long afterwards ?

Mine is almost identical apart from everything an hour earlier and a 20-30 minute drive from church to reception

    12pm ceremony

**** Photos (like you not many at the church, will probably be less if it's raining)

**** People arrive (most will be there by 14.00, some may be checking into hotels on the way etc)

14.15 - 15.45- Reception drinks, cartoonist, games and photos

15.45 - Receiving line (h2b's idea, not mine!)

    16.05 - sit down meal.

So my equivilent of your string quartet is 14.15, in your timings = 15.15, so half way between your and your MIL2B's times!

Also, are you feeding people before the breakfast? We think people will be starving by the time they sit down but can't work out where to fit it in, plus don't really want canapes that won't supress anyones hunger and will cost us a small fortune!

Thank you. CD - I'm hoping everyone thinks like you! Sarah-Kay - thank you, I might have to budge to 3.15 if MIL refuses to move!

Re: canapes / food. Erm no, it was too expensive to do canapes! So we are just hoping everyone has a massive breakfast and trying to spread the word that they should. We are putting on a bus for people to the reception, so was thinking about providing some snacks on there (if the bus company don't mind).

I reckon that if you lead the way in moving on to the reception, everyone else will take the hint and start moving in that direction too. No good hanging around the church without the bride and groom!
