Timings- help :)

Bittersweet, 6 February, 2011 at 10:44 Posted on Planning 0 5

Me and H2B are trying to sort out timings for the day and need some advice if possible.

We are getting married at our venue at 1pm, we are trying to organise how long photos usually take ( My sisters bf is professional tog so he is doing them) and when to set a time for the wedding breakfast. The DJ has said he will provide mics for the speeches and plays for 7 hours during an evening recpetion. What happens usually inbetween the meal and then the evening reception, i cant seem to think about other weddings i have been to. Usually they start about 7pm for the evening reception?

Any ideas welcomed!

Hi we are doing the same as you our provisional timing of the day is

    12.30 guests arrive

    1.00p.m ceremony

    1.30-3.00 photos and drink reception/canapes

    3.00p.m wedding breakfast (5 course)

    6.00p.m Speeches

    7-7..30p.m Evening Guests arrive

    8.30p.m Buffet opens

    11.00 Bacon/Sausage barmcakes

    12.30 bar closes

    1.00a.m end of night

bit worried about the gap but most of our guests are staying at the castle so should be able to check into hotel and freshen up maybe lie down 1/2 hour before getting ready to start again!

hope this helps, i think just go with what you think you need, most togs want 1 1/2 to make sure they get all your pics and can get the relaxed shots as well in the reception drink bit as well

Kate, I would recommend that you talk to your photographer and see what they suggest. Different photographers work in different ways and it you are still flexible at the moment it makes sense to find out what would work best for them. Should be extra easy to speak to them as they are a family member).

When we were photographing we would have suggested 2 hours between then end of the ceremony and the start of the receiving line if you are having one or just sitting down for the meal if not. We would never normally take 2 hours but most couples like to come straight out of the ceremony and mill with their guests for a bit before cracking on with the photos. Also, the extra time should all maybe half an hour for the photographer to get some great shots of just the two of you.

Wow Dani your wedding sounds awesome wish I was a guest! I'm getting married abroad so not even sure of my actual date let alone time, so frustrating as I feel so out of control grrr. If it wasn't for the great British weather (Welsh weather is 10 times worse!) I'd be getting married here

    Sarah xx

PS anyone know how to upload a profile pic? x

Generally with photos we recommend 5mins per group. The thing which takes the time though is rounding people up. As such, if you have very good ushers it can take a lot less time!

That is quite a tricky one, good advice to chat to the tog and see what he says. If your guests are staying at the venue then a break between day and evening can be quite welcome for them to put their feet up and have a rest before dancing the night away! If quite a few guests are not staying at the venue I'd advise the smaller gap the better - we went to a wedding a couple of years ago where we were twiddling our thumbs for hours in between day and evening, weren't staying over but didn't live quite close enough to pop home for a break!

Good luck with the planning, and if you need any help with your stationery please feel free to contact me. http://www.invitationsetc.co.uk/index.html
